MM9 >= MM4 > MM2 >= MM5 > MM10 >> MM3 > MM6 >> MM1

MM10's legit, but I'm gonna pick on it: some of its enemy patterns didn't feel intuitive, its powers were disappointing after seeing how effective MM9 was with them, and as much as I love Protoman the game doesn't feel designed around the little bit I've played of him or Bass. I'll play this again on Hard Mode later as Mega Man and see what that's like.

Also, eff Blade Man. I had to trick his AI on that left wall to survive.

Unique takes on the soundtrack though, and I thought it had some nice RM fights along the way (Strike Man comes to mind).

Strike Man is def a Top 5 hardest Robot Master in the series to beat with only the Mega Buster.

I beat Splash Woman the other night and I hear ya: MM9 feels better and I'm not precisely sure why just yet.

That Wall-based Devil-type boss was mean and I didn't much appreciate it, so I understand.

I always thought MM4 was kinda not liked very much because of the OP Mega Buster.

Also I still haven't finished MM10. I dunno I just got bored of it before I finished. There was something missing there.

I thought the Mega Buster was most OP in 5, though admittedly it's been a while and I've only played through most the NES games one full time besides 2.

Mega Buster feels good and is necessary, you get a good selection of RMs with Pharoah Man being the star of them, and you have secret powers you can find too! It's dope.

9 is so good because literally every weapon is useful in many scenarios, which really isn't the case in every other Mega Man game.

4, 5 and 6 are among the worst, but they arent that bad because the formula doesn't change enough imo for them to get the "bad, unplayable mess" type reviews that they do.

Man I don't think I've ever seen the MM4 megabuster called overpowered before, it takes forever to charge and isn't that large when you do, plus Pharoah's weapon is just better in every way (aside from costing WE). Surely MM5 through MM7 have stronger ones (not that I remember MM6 or MM7 well enough to say this with certainty). MM8's is also pretty OP if you buy upgrades for it but MM8 has super-strong weapons too so it depends how you want to score this.

Proto Man fits better in MM10 Hard Mode. Bosses get new attacks and the slide is pretty useful for several of them

and yeah MM5 buster charge shot is by far the most OP it ever was

I appreciate your enthusiasm for 4, but I'm dismayed by your enthusiasm for 5.

2 > 9 > 4 > 3 > 6 > 10 > 5 > 1

6 and 10 could flip. 2 and 9 maybe could too but I give 2 the edge for doing it without a roadmap of successful and unsuccessful sequels to follow off of.

Mega Man 10 is good stuff. Love the Triple Blade, Water Shield, and Nitro Wheel.

Aside from losing your charge when you get hit, Mega Man 5's Buster was really good with the wide blast radius compared to the slim shot from Mega Man 4. You get to keep your charge in 4 even if you get hit.

Mega Man 5 Buster was also all you really needed since most of the Special Weapons in 5 are not that great except for a few and Beat

^ One of the coolest things about MM5 -- getting all the letters was fun. I wish more MM-games incorporated a secret power or two like MM4 and MM5.
