Also I am glad to see more of Rus Bolton. He's an interesting dude. Stardom 15.9.6 Starfire v. Kato- 1/2 Lee v. Maya v. Chelsea- 1/2 OotS: Good fight scene with some Frost Giants, and a nice quick little subplot with a mutiny on the ship. Captain Bandana gave a nice little speech there. One Deck Dungeon: Novice Lich beaten! Gotta grind some more easy checks now I think. STEAM BATTLE #3- Recettear: Not even gonna try to predict this vs. Glittermitten, especially with two out of three matches this round upsetting my expectations. Anyway, pleasant little outing today. Ran the next segment of Jade Way without issue, and had a fun boss fight with a blind mouse. Alouette seems fun, if a bit cookie cutter. Still, ya gotta love an ojou who hides in an Amazon box. Also managed to fuse my first thing: a nice Azure Necklace. Sold down most of my stock, but I'm still a good bit short of the 30K I need for the second payment. STEAM BATTLE #6 Glittermitten Grove: I do like the shell game, but let's get down to business here. I stumbled over some spoilers, so I was able to get to TXT World pretty quickly. Got me a few keys and a mega sword and a candle! This is pretty fun although I'm not that into the actiony segments. The idle flappy birds thing was funny but kinda annoying after the first couple tries. THE VERDICT: I'm somewhat hooked on both, but I think it comes down to whether I'd be frustrated more by little girl budgets or platforming segments. Realtime rarely wins such battles with me, and tonight is not gonna be different. Semifinals, ho! I missed part of Team Bran getting into that holdfast, due to skipping on the CD, but it didn't seem like anything important was happening in the interim. Trails: Chapter 3 BEATED. Nice that Cid is more on our side, but kinda odd that we didn't get a big boss fight at the end. Just gotta talk to everybody and then it's Grancel time! Lucha 1-17b: I feel like Striker and Vamp have gotten better as a team, so that's good. Texano/Alberto time. Nice long match, but a weak finish with Alberto whipping the ground a couple feet away from Texano for a blatant DQ. (1/2) Cuerno/Mundo in a cage next week! MLP 8-8- The Parent Map: Whoa, Sunburst and Starlight ep! I like Sunburst. These parent interactions take me back, man. I don't miss that part of growing up. Found a Legendary weapon....but it was the wrong kind, so I scrapped it. Tavern's in business! SoS: I wonder if Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt just spoiled me. Oh well. I am sad about this Jorrah/Dany dynamic. :\ STEAM BATTLE #4- FFVII: I don't quite see a path to victory for FFVII here, but I've been wrong before- maybe it'll hook me. Got as far as jumping off the train, but ran out of time before I got to the next save point so I'll have to retread a bit. Why is the loli tending the bar, exactly? Also I dunno Cloud just kinda seems like a jerk to me. I've yet to understand the hype. Tifa seems cooler than I remember though, even if I missed a chance to name her Antifa. I did name her Vlada at least. I do appreciate that Cloud gives the tutorials to clueless NPCs- it's a nice reversal and makes sense. Skipped most of them though because it doesn't seem far off from most (later) RPGs. I also enjoy how little sense much of the dialogue makes. THE VERDICT: One of the few matches all bracket I was fairly confident about predicting, and Sanctuary takes it. FFVII had a decent run and will probably come back eventually, but Sanctuary is the one I'm hyped to play again, and V is still my favorite FF. DDLC/Recettear winner is going to be a tough customer, though. Three games left and I could see any of them winning! Persona: We have reached the Surroundings which I hope means we can be done with the ID card interviews. Bottom half of this bracket was oddly stacked, man. At any rate, I think DDLC needs to get to the woodshed point today. I think it will, too. Anyway, we're locked out of Sayori AND Monika, and I don't remember the conversation here, so we're helping Natsuki. But first, I check on Sayori, and she's....depressed, but alive. Hitting a bit close to home this scene, although I've never been THIS far gone. Baking was a nice fluff before the storm. And then we had to friendzone Sayori because I'm an honest dude. That will end horribly. Not sure why Keiichi keeps going on about knowing what's best for her. Hey look it ended horribly! :\ New playthrough, gonna stick with Natsuki. I do like me some interface screw. My save file is gone so that's interesting too. Bluh. I knew it was coming but it's still not very pleasant, y'know? Might be the end of the road for this one. LP MGS3 20-2: MGS2 time again. SO much backtracking! The Madnar fight was pretty great. Trails: Made it to Grancel! I'm also going to be working some (mostly digital) tabletop games into my little rotation too. Tabletop: Tried Black Orchestra for the first time on Tabletopia. I dunno I don't feel like I have tons of agency with it. Couple very near misses. EDIT: Got kinda bored and dropped it. I felt like one character got all the luck while the other one was useless, and neither really had anything I really felt like they could do to actually advance anything, just waiting for the stars to align for a plot to go off. Dropped it in the midgame when Military Support got to 4 and I couldn't see any means of reasonably succeeding. Pokemon: After a run of good luck I went from 948 coins to 1173. Got pretty excited until I realized Dratini costs 2100 coins, not 1200. SoS: Catlyn and Jamie are both examples of what I think of as the "Shinji Ikari Problem"- they have perfectly normal and understandable reactions to the crappy things they've gone through, but that doesn't mean I particularly enjoy being dragged into their interminable pity parties. Lucha 1-18a: Pentagon Jr. faces Argenis. Lots of neat spots, and Vamp and Striker are finally starting to click in. If only the camera and directing would chill out a bit! Pentagon gets a competitive win and gets the arm break again. (*1/2) Some weird promos: Catrina tells Fenix to bury Mil, Konnan is Konnan, and Cuerno drives to the arena. Angelico/Ivelisse with Havoc as ref. I have no idea who I'm supposed to cheer for here- Havoc and Ivelisse are big heels but Angelico is being a jerk and not taking her seriously. Havoc keeps helping Ivelisse but slowcounting her pins. Argento gets the win after accidentally kicking Ivelisse in the head. I'd kinda rather just see a straightforward match between 'em at this point. () STEAM BATTLE #3- Recettear: Updated Windows and now it is running okayish. Had some trouble with Jade Way leg 3, but eventually made it to Charme...who wrecked me pretty easily. THE VERDICT: There's nothing quite like bugs and losing twice in a row to dampen my enthusiasm for a game, plus I'm really entertained by my headcanon of ~~Monika realizing her game is in a tournament and screwing with other games too.~~ I think we're actually gonna take DDLC here! It'll face Sanctuary in the GRAND FINALS :O Trails: Grancel sure is big! And they have quartz I can't afford, which was unexpected. Heck I can barely make all the cash purchases I want, and I have been loaded for a long time! I am gonna be bummed if we don't get to be in the tournament. Persona: Lost a big chunk o' progress because I got tired of trying to figure out my way through the hydraulic press room and the save point was like three big rooms back. The scarcity of save points (or even the general lack of save-anywhere) is pretty close to knocking this game from a 10 to a 9. --- Look at all those chickens I can be impulsive! As a solo game (which was its initial focus) it's a puzzle-ish experience where you have to manage a large group of characters trying to move "up" a pyramid-shaped map. Unless you can match up cards to characters, it costs gems to move, but gathering resources advances a flood from the "bottom" of the map. (again, unless you can match up cards to characters) I did not handle the strategy particularly well, and lost more guys than was probably necessary before rolling up to the end with the minimum possible non-zero score. At least I didn't lose! (not sure if that's actually possible without trying >_>) Seems like the multiplayer version would be kinda fun and different too. It recently went to Kickstarter, but the guy is adjusting some details and rebooting it. Think it has a PnP version already made, maybe? Would consider backing or buying later. STEAM BATTLE FINALS #9 SanctuaryRPG: I'd say I'm about 55-45 for DDLC going into this, but I'm kinda pleased that it shouldn't be too long before the loser gets another chance. Even if Sanctuary wins, Trails is pretty close to done I'd imagine....although that means SC is gonna be the game to beat >_> Anyway! lol the Barbarian (if I knew he and this game were both gonna clean house, I would've put more thought into the name) continues to slice through the early game with surprising ease. The Butcher went down, almost without a fight, and now we're a Berserker. I still don't have a great grasp of combo count or ult gauge or half my fancier abilities, but the basic moveset seems to be serving me well. Getting better at crafting, although I rarely get stuff I actually want. This game is a real beast for "One more turn" syndrome, especially since there is very frequently stuff to do outside of combat, and you get very long loops of resources that let you do other side things that give you more resources that.... So I try really hard to stick to a "one in, one out" policy for stuff like games and books and stuff, but there are a few things that are important enough to jump the line and get an extra spot in the rotation when new material is available. Pony and Digimon are the most recent examples, but there's one other we haven't seen in a while~ Higurashi 6: why does Satoko have boobs suddenly. Anyway, I always enjoy the traditional beginning of chapter club activity, and this looks to be no exception. Graphics are glitching out a bit and it's a bit more unsettling than I expected. Time for an abuse angle I guess! Music is getting weird too. ....Yowzers the Natsuki vs. Yuri scene escalated quickly. I...think we're good here. THE VERDICT: My tolerance level is even lower than I realized. My breaking point wasn't the obvious one, it was the bit with natsuki and yuri arguing, and some of the minor atmospheric stuff before that. My tolerance for horror isn't high but it's a lot higher than it is for jump scare type things and that seems to be how my brain categorized the fourth wall stuff. ....i wonder if an lp would help here actually?
