Persona: Magician 7! That's some foreshadowing right there. We have two requests. I think I was told to wait until I can do like four in one pass, but eh, into Mementos we goooo. Cleared the abusive boyfriend with zero problem other than starting the search in a poor spot. Next time we'll go into the new path and fight the land developers! Lucha 1-13b: Argenis, Superfly, and Aerostar treat us to some quality flippydoos before the Crew put 'em away. Particularly weak commentary here, even from Striker. (*) Awkward interview segment building Konna/Puma tension. A Man Called Cage has a decent match for the title until going for the blatant DQ as the challenger, because ??? (1/2) An awkward beatdown ensues on both Puma and Konnan. Am I supposed to be rooting for Konnan now? Cage rips the belt in half....which to me kinda just makes it look cheap. The mystery woman is looking for "Matanza." K? LP MGS3 17-1: at this point I feel kinda bad for EVA and how hard she is trying with Snake. I, uh, didn't actually finish the tutorials, because I was too busy monkeying with character creation and trying to remember/platform the route to an early secret. It'll be held back in the first round by a slow start, but nostalgia and expectations from memory might be enough to get it through the first round anyway! STEAM BATTLE #16 Sound of Drop -fall into poison-: I don't remember acquiring this, and it's not free like some VNs. I'm guessing Humble Bundle? It's a horror VN, apparently, so I am confused but intrigued. I like horror, but only in very small doses. We'll see. ...I like the characters and art and music so far, and the production values seem above average for a VN. The setting is not quite my thing ~~but at least it's an aquarium and not an underwater amusement park with grilled chicken sandwiches and fifty games of kick the can~~. This seems like something that's gonna have jump scares, but the part I actually played was within my tolerance level. Wild guess: Himeno brought the other star pendant as a present and/or SETUP FOR ELABORATE MURDER FUNTIMES also the creepy guy is an okay dude. THE VERDICT: I'm gonna go with the sure thing here, although I am not ruling out another shot for Sound of Drop in the future. But if I want a creepy VN with cute girls, well... STEAM BATTLE #8 Hatoful Boyfriend: Sorry, I meant a weird VN with pigeons. I have a vague idea of some (major?) spoilers, but mostly just a lot of curiosity. One of those games that I was really curious about and yet never managed to start. I hardly ever use default names, but Hiyoko amuses me, so we're stickin' with that. But we're changing the family name to Tohsaka because this is Rin's long-lost sister. No human portraits, we pigeon it up the way things were meant to be. The translation is kinda weak (or it's originally English and just not well edited?)- names are flopped inconsistently and some odd spellings. This is just as strange as I expected, good. I think we're gonna go for Okosan. Oko San. Hyper Pudding Dove. Yuuya and Ryouta are also contenders. Seems kinda disjointed so far, but the novelty of a pigeon dating sim has yet to wear off. But we're changing the family name to Tohsaka because this is Rin's long-lost sister. No human portraits, we pigeon it up the way things were meant to be. The translation is kinda weak (or it's originally English and just not well edited?)- names are flopped inconsistently and some odd spellings. This is just as strange as I expected, good. I think we're gonna go for Okosan. Oko San. Hyper Pudding Dove. Yuuya and Ryouta are also contenders. Seems kinda disjointed so far, but the novelty of a pigeon dating sim has yet to wear off. I would like to actually get some post-game stuff done this time! I didn't really stick around after beating the original, and my DS version got corrupted about halfway through Etna Mode. This could break the pattern! Seems like a pretty reasonable port. Pleinair just auto-joins! That's cool. This time around, I'm going Bow for Laharl, Axe for Etna, and Fist for Pleinair, because why not. Got through the tutorial stuff for the most part. Trails: Finished up the last couple Zeiss missions (with a bit of help) and now it's time for lalalala, lalalala, Elmo Village. Watchmen: BEATED. Interesting ending it's got there. Steam Battle #12- Chester One: I believe this was also from Coffee Santa :D I booted it up for a bit previously, enough to have a vague idea of some mechanics and a Chester unlocked. Couldn't figure out how to use anybody but my most recent purchase and the default, but it was a pretty good time regardless, and not as punishing (so far) as other similar platformers. Cleared out a few levels. I really like the ability to switch styles and Chesters, although some of the styles make things a bit hard to see. THE VERDICT: Chester's a good time, but yeah, it's Disgaea vs. a platformer, and that is a predictable matchup for me. Steam Battle #2- Doki Doki Literature Club: I have been spoiled on this to an extent, so I'm interested to see it play out. Last time I was put off by the warnings, but now it's less winter-y and I am in a bit better mental health. And we're off to the races! Nothing has happened yet- just a quartet of cute girls doing cute things. I wrote a poem for Natsuki, but took Yuri's side in the debate. I'm not sure if there's a "right" way to do things, but I generally play my first run of a VN as myself, and that's how I'd roll. Interesting that there doesn't seem to be a Monika option at either point. Currently Natsuki > Yuri > Sayori >> Monika but we'll, uh, see how that goes later.
