In comparing that to current temperature data and CO2 saturation we can know that the past century and the past forty years in particular are witness to an extraordinary warming event and that we, humanity, are likely the cause.

In case someone is asking themselves that question in earnest, the reason the 'global warming' moniker was dropped in favor of 'climate change' is that the public couldn't wrap their collective heads around the concept of a 'rise in aggregate temperatures'. It isn't that each day is warmer than the last, it's that the mean temperatures are rising over time.

Weather is also a tricky thing to analyze because it's generated not just from visible sunglight, but from oceanic currents. It's a dynamic thing and looking at any given snapshot in time is largely meaningless. Anyone who says to themselves, "Lookie here! I done found myself a snowball! Where's your global warming now?" then they've missed the point completely.

The concept of gases emitted from industry having an effect of holding in excess heat in an unprecedented way in the planet's history isn't a complex one. But even if you factor that out of the equation and look at it from a business risk management standpoint the questions asked are what are the results of action or inaction compared to 'whether or not it's a real thing'. If it's not real then taking action can lead to innovative technologies anyway, similar to what was seen with the space race. If it is real though and no action is taken, millions upon millions of people are displaced as water levels rise, millions upon millions more people are at risk of death through lack of water or food to eat, and all of that leads to monumental strife and discord.
