I just watched this clip from his recent h3h3 podcast appearance which I think was the first time he discussed it in a while. He basically just retreads the "I wasn't prepared/I did a bad job articulating my points" excuse from his initial non-apology. He uses a variation of "I have a black friend" to defend that he's not racist. Ethan says some centrist platitudes about considering all viewpoints (which apparently includes ones that are horrible and wrong and argue in bad faith).

That's my take at least, but you can watch the video for yourself. Kind of disappointing that Jon just can't straight up apologize for expressing those views and say something like "Yeah after the backlash I realized what was so bad about the things I said." Probably because he doesn't understand what's wrong with it, which is disappointing

I think hes probably just a right-leaning centrist reactionary, which is fairly harmless when it comes down to it but the fact remains that in his line of work its honestly best to just not comment on that stuff publicly. Unfortunately for him its not a great time to express openly conservative views, and with his audience most likely being mostly younger it wouldve definitely been better for him to keep his mouth shut.

I kinda just hadnt been into his content for a while before all that went down anyway so it was easy to let him go.

Him rarely making new content has been the case since basically when he started Game Grumps. If it hasn't sunk him in those almost six years, I doubt much will change in a year or two. He doesn't really even talk politics anymore, and YT tends to be popular with right-leaning people.

Well, there was a time I did like him, but I was starting to lose interest once he started doing a bunch of movie videos instead of game videos, and that indeed was long before he said all that crazy shit.

Ah yes, let's make people who spout hateful and ill-informed views out to be the "victim". I felt a little pity for him in that he probably wasn't a genuinely racist guy, just somebody who isn't super smart when it comes to politics and got caught up with some manipulative minds. But there's a certain point where if you keep believing that shit, I lose that pity. I don't know if his apparent lack of interest is a good thing; it's probably smart to not talk about politics publicly anymore, but it also sounds like he's being pretty insular and closing himself off from actually learning the specific issues people have with his views.

To be frank, those people do the exact same thing. The only reason he is getting so much hate is because the people who disagree with him are more vocal then the people who can separate the artist from his viewpoints.

Discussing any kind of politics is pointless because it is the thing that turns most people into close minded lemmings who will stay in their echo chambers no matter what you throw at them. And that is true no matter what side of the spectrum you are on. It is much better to just say "I don't agree, but oh well" and leave it at that.

Because it's reducing racial issues to individual relationships rather than a larger societal problem. I mean, yeah, an actual neo-Nazi or KKK member probably isn't capable of having black friends, but there are different levels of racism.

But most individual racists don't affect much directly unless they're killing people, denying them employment, etc. That still doesn't make it okay because they vote and might affect how other people vote. If Jontron goes and votes for people who make decisions because of disingenuous statistics, I personally think that's a concern.
