Women were treated like slaves as well. Puritanical ideologies were abundant and making people miserable. The good ol days when someone could get killed if their neighbor thought they had the devil in them.

Maybe he's got a historical fascination with the time period. It's like with WW2 buffs. They're not evil people that just enjoy death, conflict, and human suffering because they're interested in WW2. Maybe part of the fascination is because it was good vs evil, countries uniting for the greater good, winning the fight, stomping out evil, etc.

And that's not meant to be 100% equivalence to Moore's statement, don't misconstrue folks. It's just that there's good with the bad anytime anywhere.
