And instead of releasing true next-gen consoles, but instead released the PS4 Ultra Pro, Xbox One X++, and whatever console-thing Nintendo does next (with slightly updated specs from its predecessor), what would happen?

Well, there's already two or three XOXOBXOBXXs up, Switch is too new to care but I can see them re-lauching a combo Switch+3DS in the future... not sure what Sony is up to

Am I the only one who hopes they keep this generation for a while? Why do people want a new generation with a whole new group of games. This way backwards compatability isn't an issue.

I have like 5 games for my PS4. Maybe they should start making good games before worrying about releasing a new console.

That is probably what is going to happen honestly. They will probably keep making the PS4 and XBox One incremental upgrades and not make a brand new console ever again unless they want to do something completely different with it. Nintendo on the other hand will probably be releasing a new console in 4 - 6 years like they always do. --- I am a senior software engineer.
