$3,000/mo for the rest of your life - but you can never earn more, only save.

Parameters:

-$3,000/mo as long as you're alive, tax free. Even if you're alive at 80, you'll still be getting those monthly checks.

- You don't have to do anything to receive the money. You can sit at home all day long if you so desire.

- Inflation will be adjusted.

-You can never earn more money. You can't "retire" and also work part time to earn money. You can't invest in mutual funds/stocks. In this fantasy reality, you are capped at $3,000/mo... however, you can save. For example, if you manage to save $1,000/mo for 5 years, you'll have $60,000 to do whatever you'd like with--except use it to earn more money--and still be receiving $3,000/mo.

-You can't call JG Wentworth and get cash now

-You will not earn social security during retirement age (you will receive Medicare at retirement age)

-Can't receive government assistance (except for Medicare once you reach the age) such as welfare, foodstamps, disability, etc.

-Can't gamble or play lottery or participate in any activity where using your money could potentially earn you more.

I'd take it if it rose with inflation. When I'm 80, 3000 dollars will probably be the cost of a pizza

Well, a pro to some people would be you are not required to work. You're essentially retired, but capped at $3,000/mo.

This would be more than enough for me to live on.
$500-800 a month for rent
$150-300 a month for food
$150 a month for internet
$400 a month for utilities

I'd still have a bare minimum of $1400 of fuck around money per month.

It's not for everyone. Some people (like myself) would probably be bored out of their minds if I didn't go to work anymore at all (and what's the point if you're not going to earn any money).

But for others, they can budget and save for a few years, then casually and comfortably travel the world for 6 months or a year while still receiving some income. Come back to the states, rinse and repeat. There also isn't much of an "extreme emergency" to save for retirement because you know you'll never be on the streets. You may not end up living in a $500,000 house, drive a Mercedes and have expensive Golf memberships and a million dollars in the bank earning income---but you'll never be shoved into some poor house or on the street, either.

Pretty good deal if you get married and/or have kids and your spouse makes most the cash. You stay home, keep the house clean, cook the meals, take care of the kids and still pull 36k a year on top of whatever they make

Not with $3000 a month. Unless you lived in squalor for 15 years first.

Yes, you would. $18 an hour is barely a livable wage, and not in most places worth living.

We'll take my 5 year example earlier. If you live in a cheaper part of the country for 5 years, and manage to get by on $2,000/mo, then you can essentially have 1 year out of every 5 years where you will live an almost $100,000 lifestyle that year---all while never working.

What would you do if you had $100,000 one year and didn't have to work? Where would you go? What would you do/buy? The variables can always be tweaked, but you get the idea.

This is just an example. My scenario isn't probably something I'd do, nor would I settle on $3,000/mo. But it is a scenario and reality some people would enjoy, particularly given one does not have to work.

Kid, shut the fuck up. The cost of living is high in some areas of the US.

So move to a cheaper area. This isn't one of those "money but you can never move away" kind of deals.

It really depends on the area of the country. But outside the really expensive cities, yeah 3000/month is enough to live comfortably.

Honestly, I could buy a nice house with a big yard, a decent car, and have plenty of money to spare with a guaranteed $3000 a month in my area.

Alright. Lemme just sell my house that I bought less than a week ago and find a new job. These are wise decisions.

Actually, you probably can't sell your house because that would constitute making money, no?

Which also sort of defeats the purpose of finding a new job, as well.

This. I live in a capitol city in Canada and 3k a month (US or CAD either one) would be more than enough to live in for me.

Back in my home state of Michigan I could buy a new house for $30,000. Rent for a 3 bedroom house on the lake was only $700/month.
