The argument that the word is "changing" is just more people wanting to use the word without the repercussions that follow it. Moreover, these people that use gay derogatorily usually make homophobic comments and insults as well, which kinda defeats their argument.

People probably still would, but most social networking sites moderate that shit pretty heavily.

I don't even know how someone can make the "gay means lame now" argument without acknowledging the implication that you are calling gay people lame

I think it depends on context.

Like, if someone is acting meek, and you call them gay, it's implying gay people are weak and prissy. So bad.

But if you shoot a basket and you brick, saying "That was gay" doesn't really have anything to do with homosexuals.

Same with the r word and f word, tbh. That's how I see it. Gay isn't as common as it used to be though. The r word is still very prevalent. I myself use it.

It's still surprising when I hear of places so different from mine. No one uses the r word around here anymore. Then again maybe I'm just really old.

I use it.

The taboo around using it gives it an impact that other insults lack because theyre acceptable. Same thing with the "r" word.

Granted, I also know when not to use those words. I dont throw them around will nilly and get mad that others were offended.

it's still very common when it's just a bunch of dudes hanging out.

Most women have moved on and get all bitchy when guys use it so most only use it around other dudes. Hear it constantly in the Uni gym/lockers.

Yeah I remember being 11. I eventually grew out of it like I assumed most people do more so because it actually sounds lame when used that way than the fact that people find it offensive

People still use it and it isn't really a big deal. It used to mean "happy". Words can take on new meanings

I use it and the r-word often. My friends do the same. I avoid saying it at work or school lol

I feel like when people get offended over that sort of thing is a way to know if Id want them to be my friend or not.

I think this is a mutual feeling, though. I would feel embarrassed if my group of friends still spoke like that at our age. Like other people said, it's not that I'm offended by the use of the words, it's more that it's such a trashy, junior high school way of talking (at least around here).

I'd feel the same way about someone constantly saying "pwned" or "for the win" unironically, or repeatedly using the phrase "you know what I'm sayin?" Those aren't offensive but they reflect a personality that's pretty stalled in terms of maturity.

Being rigid as fuck in my speech would be boring as hell. There's a time and place for such talk, though. On here, I don't give a shit. Who gives a damn what gamefaqsstain #150493827 thinks about you? When gaming, I have a similar outlook as well.

Of course, at work, or at a serious gatherings, it makes sense to behave. Just assimilate to your surroundings, and you'll be fine.

EDIT: lol #150493827
