this sucks. I literally moved to Alaska and thought I was done with it. I had them in Washington state like 2 years ago. I don't think they came with me cause I stayed down there for another year before I moved and never saw them again. and I was living with my parents up here for like 3 months before I got my apartment and there is no sign of them at the house. I was an idiot and we bought a used couch from some people in town. and I think maybe they came off that possibly. fucking bed bugs. I hate them. they ruin your life. I feel like i'm in a movie series where they keep returning over and over in every sequel

Just so you all know, Zikten is right. Especially if you live in an apartment. If someone in your apartment complex gets them, it is possible that you can get them too. My friend and his family are pretty OCD when it comes to cleaning. They have gotten bedbugs before. Usually from other people but bedbug are not attracted to trash. They are attracted to people and this thing called blood that they have. Clean or dirty it doesn't matter to them.

It's a really bad problem in my town, and I've had them since last summer. Got then from someone in my apartment complex, and it's not just my building that has them; I've seen several mattresses and furniture thrown out with "BED BUGS" written on them.

They are absolute hell to live with. Every little feeling you get on your body gets you paranoid, and you will literally never get a great night's sleep. Live with them long enough, and you'll stop even being disgusted by them; it's just kill on sight. It's much harder to get rid of them if you live in an apartment, because if your neighbor still has any at all then they can always come back to you.

I gotta agree with this.

I moved into a place a couple years ago that had them. They are a big problem in my state too.

I didn't even know they were real until moving into that place.

Your topic title states that you may possibly have bedbugs. Clearly the first step would be to call an exterminator right away so you can be sure, then get rid of them as quickly as possible if you do, before the problem worsens.

tbh, usually a normal exterminator can't even detect them. You often need specially trained dogs or something.

yea I know.....I feel like a moron. I had just moved in and still didn't have any furniture and I wasn't even sure how I was going to sleep that night. I guess my mom originally didn't think I was gonna spend the first night in my apartment but I was excited and I wanted to stay and needed something to sleep on. and we found this person on craigs list. turned out the couch was in poor shape but it worked for my needs. and I bought it for like $50.

but now thinking back, there were alot of bad signs. and I should have just been more careful. I don't know for SURE that it was the couch but.....I am suspecting it. it was on the couch that I first saw a bug. but last night one was on my bed, which is in a different room. I have seen one in the bathroom too. I'm still not sure if they are bed bugs. I have seen like 2 or 3 different species so far. one of them looks like bed bugs but I am hoping i just misidentified it. i've been tossing them in the toilet and flushing them. my dad wants me to catch the next one so he can see it though.

the worst part, for me isn't the blood sucking. it is what they do to your place. they love to destroy books for example. I had to throw out some books last time. dumbasses like the smell or whatever of the book binding glue even though it has no nutrients.

Damn.

At this point, depending on his area, they may be closed. It's late here and a Sunday(Where I am) and could be similar for him. Also, it may be possible that he already called and exterminator. There's also the fact that he's not sure if he has them or not. And even if he had a way to get rid of them, that process normally involves you not being there for a while.

If you treat your house or have exterminators come, turn on some music with the bass turned up. Ive heard that eggs can lay dormant even after a home is treated but that the vibrations make them think something is nearby so they start hatching.

Also the things hate heat, so if you could get your electronic in storage for a day or two you could crank your heat up and burn them out.

I've been dealing with bed bugs for 3 years now. My downstairs neighbors brought them when they moved in. I've been here for 8 years, then about 6-8 months after they moved in I started getting bites. I too didn't realize they were a real thing until this occurred. When I first started getting bit I thought it was some fleas brought in by my dog. I ruled that out. Then I thought it was some sort of rash as the bites were all clustered together. It wasn't till my downstairs neighbors tossed their mattress outside and asked me if I had a bed bug problem that I found out. I started looking it up on the internet and figured out what to look for. Sure enough bed bugs. I tried working with the neighbors bought diatamaeceus (sp) earth for both of us. I bought bed bug covers for my bed and made makeshift bed bug coasters for my bed posts. This knocked them way down but never all the way gone. My bites actually healed and i didn't get bit for awhile but they came back. Periodically the downstairs neighbors would toss more furniture outside to trash.

I cannot call an exterminator because it would be a waste of money. As long as the downstairs neighbors have them I will get them back. So I can spend hundreds of dollars treating my place only have them return in a few weeks/months. I tried to get the landlord involved and they ignore all my tickets. Then the downstairs neighbors have turned on me. They now deny the original events. Say they never came to me about them. Say the bedbugs came from me and are coming down the walls infesting them. The landlords.. they even raised my rent up $100 because I refused to sign a new lease that stated by signing I declare the house pest free and I'm responsible for pest issues. I plan on moving if I can tax return time of next year. Leaving nearly everything behind except for some key stuff (my PC stuff, important papers..etc.) , most of which is going to go into special quarantine. But I'm going to start nearly all over.

Unlike other pests bedbugs aren't attracted to garbage..etc. They feed on blood of people, they are nearly blind and fairly slow and hunt via carbon dioxide emissions (your breath) and heat sources. You can be the cleanest person and still get bedbugs. Bedbugs don't give a shit how much you wipe your counters or vacuum the floor. Unlike their name they will hide throughout the house, and yes your bed but not just your bed. Even rooms you don't use they will hide and then come out to feed. A fed bedbug can go months without feeding with some studies saying they can go dormant and last a year without feeding. Once they are set in, the best coarse of treatment is heat treating the house. Past 150 degrees insects (bedbugs, roaches, fleas, spiders...etc) will die So heating the entire house up for several hours will eliminate all bugs and their eggs. Heating treating a home is expensive though. $1000 or more. But it's got to be the whole house.

One of my key things when I move no more multi tenant units. I'm looking for a either a small house or even a mobile home if necessary. If I still end up bringing some with me I'll be able to hire an exterminator on my own if I'm in a home that isn't attached to anyone else. Though I'm hoping that I'm able to evacuate this place without taking any of them with me.
