Part 1 out of 2 of the finale is tonight and one of the contestants, Grace Davies, has been singing several self-penned songs over the course of the season. And tonight she sang a tweaked version of her original Roots which she sang at her first audition. This time she sang it with the amazing Paloma Faith. This is honestly just so incredibly good in my opinion. This 20-year old girl better keep writing songs as long as she can muster.

Do any of these people go on to have even modestly successful careers? Because the ones in America sure don't. At least not for years.

I can't even remember the last time someone has won a singing show and become a superstar.

Several artists, both winners and non-winners, have made it from X-Factor UK in particular. Im not British but I follow it each year since it has spawned actual success. Three big names are Leona Lewis, One Direction and Little Mix.

What this performance also show is that Grace could work as a song writer for big name artists if she wanted to.

The finale duets are typically the contestant singing a song of the guest star but here we have the guest star singing a song written by the contestant.

The only two people that ever got successful off these shows that I'm aware of are Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.

Jennifer Hudson had a pretty good run as well but isn't an all-star celebrity and probably won't ever be one at this point.

While a lot of them have gone on to get decent jobs / paid for their acts, none of them are household names the way other pop stars are.

who? who? who? who? who?

ok I guess I've heard OF One Direction but can't even name a single song, and I literally didn't know Leona Lewis existed until they stuck her shitty ass song at the end of FF13 and I haven't seen her do literally anything else.

All big names in Britain at least. And 1D are big. If you are that unaware of popular songs/bands then... go you I guess?

The Voice is notorious for screwing over contestants.

Name 1 person who has ever won on that show, apart from the celebrities who use it as a platform to launch and market their new music?

Mhm. And Swedish Idol has given us many nationally famous names including Eurovision winners Loreen and Mns Zelmerlw.
