Would you ever sell your stuff online and meet FACE to FACE with someone??

15 y/o Jacob Baumgart from Virginia was shot dead by a POLICE OFFICER after the boy tried to ROB him!!

A 4 year police veteran, Robert Misegades was meeting the young teen at 12:30AM so he can sell an XBOX ONE X to the boy but suddenly Jacob pulled out a pistol in an attempt to rob the off duty police officer and the cop pulled out his gun and they exchanged gunfire outside Chestertowne Shipping Centre..

Jacob was shot in the head and was killed instantly and the officer was also shot but he was released from hospital..

Jacob's mom said that her son was not perfect but still considered him to be her "baby boy" as she described her son as an innocent looking boy but had problems..She said that her son desperately wanted the new console but did not have the money for it

Jacob attended Meadowbrook High School according to friends...

The officer KNEW of the boy's age and still went to the sale anyway after he was contacted from craigslist...

Would you ever sell your stuff FACE TO FACE with someone?

Have before and would again but not under the circumstances mentioned-the time was stupid and asking for trouble and the kids age wouldn't have filled me with confidence either.
If you do it safely, in a public place and at a decent hour then there's no reason not to.

All of this.
If the person you're meeting is under 18, probably best to insist a parent/guardian comes along, too.

Other thing that'd be good to know: How'd a 15 year old get the gun?
If it's his parents' and they didn't properly secure it so their minor dependent couldn't access it, they should be charged with a crime for that.
May seem cruel to threaten them w/ prison after losing their son, but their recklessness got that cop shot and could have ended in him dying, there were real consequences to their actions. Again, if that's how he got the gun.

Good, fuck that kid.

Who is dumb enough to use craigslist to rob someone? There is clear evidence who you are. It might take some doing and a few court orders, but your isp will be found and you'll be arrested.

I've never had an issue selling anything on Craigslist. Granted I'm 6'2 and 400+ pounds of pure monster. I can recall one exchange (I used to sell fire sticks) that seemed shady. Instead of my .45 being in my urban carry holster, I left it in plain sight on my hip. Everything went smoothly.

You just have to be smart about where/how you sell/buy an item. Don't go to anyone house/have them come to yours. Obviously if you're buying/selling something large like furniture you might have to make an exception but just be smart about it and bring a friend if you can. Set the meet for a public place. Police stations are my prime target. You can even call ahead in the non emergency line and let them know what time it's at.

yeah most states have laws about them. it changes from state to state though, but if you bought the gun legally and at least brand new, no excuse to not the know those laws as they are in the front pages of the safety manual which I feel everyone SHOULD read if they buy a gun. hell when my grandad bought me a gun for my birthday he wouldn't give it to me till I read the manual

edit: actually just checked my manual and only a handful of states have the laws listed and virginia isn't one of the. odd considering I recall them having stricter laws from where I currently live.

eh if you where smart you'd use a public computer. but most criminals aren't smart. unless libraries have shit like craigslist blocked and i'm unaware of that. i've only ever used public computers when I needed something printed and printer was currently not working or didn't have any ink and wasn't about to buy some ink just to print one damn thing.

True but most libraries (atleast around here) require you to have a library card and sign in/out.

ah true. forgot about the sign in sign out. thought it was just the card. I don't use it often.

still a smart criminal could figure something out, just would take more planning I guess. dunno if a fake id just to get a library card would be worth the hassle lol

edit: I remember a kid somehow getting by the blocks on school computers though. no clue how he did it though.

Which is a stupid decision, considering it's technically illegal to enter into contract with a minor.
