On the track, manual is obviously the way to go. Just driving around the city, however, I don't really see how it would be anything other than a nuisance.

Automatics get better mpg and are easier to use. Unless you've been modding your car, you'll never experience the real benefits of a manual car

I drive both on a regular basis and don't really care anymore. It all comes down to the car. If I'm driving a bigass truck/van/land boat, I really don't care how much "control" I have over the engine/gearbox. If I'm driving a Miata, it had better be manual or else it's worthless because control is about all you get in one of those.

No they don't. At least they didn't until they came out with 8+ speed transmissions, might be different now

Do a daily commute that involves sitting in traffic stopping and starting every 30 seconds so that you can spend 20 minutes trying to travel 3kms. That's why people like automatics.

I've driven manual for ages, it has lost it's novelty and I am counting down the days until my first automatic. Being stuck in heavy traffic in a manual is reason enough for me to switch to automatic, even if it hardly ever happens.

Yeah it's way different now dude. The biggest difference now is that people with manuals force out more acceleration when getting up to speed.

I like manuals but I do miss having an auto for that grind.

Yeah that's a fair point

Those little 1.2 litre engines fucking suck in an automatic. Foot to the floor just trying to get up to highway speed.

My car is automatic, but I can throw the transmission into sport mode and/or use the paddle shifters if I want more control. Not as genuine as a manual, but honestly who cares in 2017 when even supercars have ditched them.

If for whatever reason you want to be in second when you should be in third, you could always put your automatic transmission into second. That's what the numbers below the P, N and R are for.

You're only limited if you want to put it in secobd when you should be in first.

I only like automatic with flappy paddles or the cheaper buttons like in the Mercedes. I like to be able to choose which gear to be in.

I mainly prefer manual because it feels good to accelerate and go through the gears. Or shift down to overtake.

But its a pain in the ass driving in the city stuck in long ass traffic having to clutch down everytime you come to a stop. It kills your left foot. I live in the rural so my left foot aint trained for it.

Automatic takes that problem away.

Its hard to decide. If I was rich enough, I would definitely get an automatic luxury car like Mercedes. But own a second car in manual. Or at least with flappy paddles where u can choose your gears

With today's transmissions manual are pointless unless it is a work truck or race car.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Engine braking is a world of difference alone if you live somewhere with a lot of inclined roads.

It is for stuff like if you need power for getting through snow or mud or something. But that was more for back when automatic transmissions were not as good as they are now.
