Do you think a jury vote should be a majority decision rather than unanimous?

White Former Police Officer, Shannon Kepler from Oklahoma finally heard his fate today after being found guilty in his FOURTH TRIAL!!..He previously had THREE MISTRIALS but the cop's luck finally came to an end when a jury found him guilty of murdering his daughter's black boyfriend and he was sentenced to 15 YEARS in Prison!!

He was convictd in the 3rd degree manslaughter in the 2014 murder of 19 y/o Jeremy Lake. He was also issued a 15,000 fine in his sentencing.

Shannon was a 24 year police veteran who claimed he was trying to "protect" his daughter after he kicked her out of the house and was living in a "crime-ridden" neighborhood. He drove up to them when he saw them walking to his house and interrogated her on what she was doing there. When Jeremy reached out to shake his hand, that's when Shannon SHOT him and then fled in his vehicle. He did not turn himself in until the next morning. He maintained that Jeremy had a GUN and was defending himself but no Gun was found at the scene.

Lisa Kepler is the 18 y/o daughter at the centre of his who left homeless when her parents kicked her out. She volunteered at a homeless shelter and met Jeremy there who then stayed at his house

She said her father is a RACIST who didn't like the fact that she was dating a black kid.

In the 4 Mistrials, there was only ONE black juror seated in each of the trials and civil rights activists said his lawyers purposely tried to exclude potential black candidates.

Trial 1 had a 11-1 mistrial, Trial 2 had a 10-2 mistrial and Trial 3 had a 6-6 mistrial..

Oklahoma has a law that sets out minimum 4 years on his charge but no maxmimum term leaving up to the judge to decide..the Juror recommended a 15 year term and that's what the judge gave.

Do you think a verdict should be a majority decision rather than unanimous? let's see what people think

Three people may have liked it, but one person apparently *really* disliked it >_>

It should absolutely be a unanimous vote from the jury.

Otherwise you'd may as well let Twitter or Reddit decide the outcome of trials.

3/4 in agreement should be enough. Its a waste of time and money to keep having do-overs.

Then nobody would ever go to prison. I'm sure you'd love that.

No, if the jury votes unanimously either way then there are no more trials.

That's fucked

One trial only, majority rules.

If you can find a reason for a retrial, go for it but the same rules apply.

There is obviously more to this story for three groups of jurors to find him not guilty.

Is it bad that I just assume they are racist and feel a black kid got what he deserved? Our took that dude at his word regardless of the situation or evidence because he is white and the kid was a black hoodlum.

I somehow doubt the fact that he shot him was in contention. The issue was clearly the why, which is where the claim that the youth had a gun comes into play.

They didn't find him not guilty, it was a hung jury. Granted, I'm not sure if the charges varied by trial since they might have tried for a lesser charge (ie, something easier to prove) to finally get the conviction.

Yes, that is a bad assumption. There are a lot of reasons NOT pertaining to race and, more importantly, it's a matter of beyond a reasonable doubt. You could have had jurors who think he might have been completely in the wrong but they had lingering doubts.

Yes, it is bad. You're prejudiced.

Am I missing something?

Overprotective dad, I can see. Racially motivated? My apologies if it is racist but from the pictures supplied, the guy does not look "black" at first sight.

The rule of unanimous decision is stupid. It just devalues individuals; votes and allows one person to derail the decision if he or she just wants to.

Quite the opposite. It *empowers* the individual if they can block the group.
