So in Stardust Crusaders, DIO controls The World, which he believes is able to stop time.

I get it's just an anime, but I cannot stop thinking about how powers like these are supposed to work.

If time stops, how do you still see? Light should stop too. So you'd see either a still image, nothing, or a super blurry image. And how does interacting with others work? Plus once time stops, the air and the Earth and the galaxy and everything stop, so shouldn't you fucking eject away from the Earth and/or get shredded by the air or whatever?

No because what if another show does it? Like My Hero Academia where quirks are supposed to somehow be scientific/evolutionary? I need a general theory of how such a power would work in such a show.

Currently I think time only appears to be stopped, and in reality you have something akin to Speed Force, so you're basically moving and thinking so quickly that it seems to you as though time is stopped. That also explains why you can move things as though they're ragdolls, since your super high acceleration means you have an extreme amount of force at your disposal.

I mean, DIO didn't exactly go to college or anything

It explains pulling the bullets out of the air better than 'stopped time' does since your acceleration would overpower any force or velocity tied to the bullets

No idea what king crimson is

It's fine for magic/soul power to be involved. That let's you handwave just about anything imo. But The World's power is supposedly explicitly Stopping Time, which just makes no sense.

Dio calls it his "world of stopped time". Other people with similar powers can percieve/move within it with limited success.

Stands are psychic/spiritual in nature, so its not hard science.

Think of Dio accessing an overlapping dimension, superimposed over base reality. While inside he can move around and manipulate the world of the base reality. It doesn't make for stopped time to be...timed. So it would make sense that Dio is "kicked out" of the "stopped dimension" when his time is up.

I'm not entirely sure that he's outright stopping time or just slowing it down immensely. There's some scenes where he has stopped time and things that are in motion are still moving a bit.

He has a guy shoot at him with a shotgun and the pellets are moving slightly for awhile before they stop. So they might just be moving imperceptibly slow at that point. So he'd still be able to see without issue if that's the case.

Whenever a series says "Stopped time" or whatever, I just assume they mean slowed time to the point where it seems stopped and that characters don't know any better.

Anything the user interacts/has physical contact with are not affected by the time stop for like a second. That's why the knives still move a bit after he "throws" them. That's why when someone is punched in time stop they move or explode when they should just stay still until the time stop ends. Also how that dumb magnet thing worked.
