Celebrities have started being held accountable for allegations. Let's move on to the politicians. Today in the news, it's Roy Moore. 4 women have come forward about his predatory behavior. Moore, in his '30s, sought out young teenage girls for romantic and sexual encounters. The women went through extensive interviews and their stories and accounts seem to hold up. Moore heard this was coming and got the jump on the media releases. Telling he went to Breitbart for this.

https://www.rawstory.com/2017/11/roy-moore-runs-to-breitbart-to-pre-emptively-deny-wapo-report-about-improper-relations-with-underage-girls/

Too bad for him it still came out.

http://wapo.st/2hmHvbQ

http://wapo.st/2AweQpr

Some Republicans have excused the behavior in bizarre ways. Others claim to condemn the behavior but will not go against party lines. Moore is now refusing to debate his opponent.

Take Joseph and Mary. Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. They became parents of Jesus, Alabama state auditor Jim Ziegler told the Washington Examiner on Thursday.

Wow...just wow

Yeah :/

Roy Moore himself is pretty fucking ridiculous

https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/why-roy-moores-law-school-professor-nicknamed-him-fruit-salad

George Thomas Wilson, a retired magazine-marketing and P.R. professional now living in New York City, has never forgotten his first criminal-law class, at the University of Alabama School of Law, in 1974. It was taught by Clint McGee, who graduated from the law school himself, in 1940. Early in the class, McGee called on one of Wilsons classmates, a United States Military Academy graduate named Roy Moore. And, for the entire hour, McGee kept him standing and talking, standing and talking, Wilson told me recently. Finally, at the end of the hour, McGee said to him, Mr. Moore, I have been teaching in this school for thirty years, and in all of that time youre the most mixed-up person Ive ever taught. Im going to call you Fruit Salad.

John D. Saxon, a civil-rights attorney practicing in Birmingham, also took McGees class. He confirmed Wilsons account. Were all sitting there just kind of praying. Dear Lord, glad this isnt me, please help old Roy out. But he was totally, hopelessly confused. Two days later, Saxon said, McGee called on Moore again. He says, Fruit Salad, take this case. Roy was puzzled, Saxon said, and McGee repeated himself. He says, Professor McGee, its me, Mr. Moore. At which point McGee gets him in front of the room, takes Moores hand, and starts turning him in circles. He says, Mr. Moore, youre all mixed up, like a fruit salad. He proceeded to call him Fruit Salad for the rest of law school. Saxon added, Years later, Im watching the ten-oclock news with my wife and theres this circuit judge up in Etowah County with this little plaque with the Ten Commandments on the wall behind him, and I said to her, Look, theres Fruit Salad. "

In September, Moore, who went on to become the chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Courta position from which he was twice removed, for violating the Alabama Canons of Judicial Ethicswon a Republican Senate primary runoff over Luther Strange. He is now favored in the general election, which will be held on December 12th, to fill the seat recently occupied by Jeff Sessions, who graduated from Alabama Law in 1973, the year before Moore matriculated. (Moores opponent in the race is Doug Jones, a Democrat and former U.S. Attorney best known for prosecuting two of the Ku Klux Klan members behind the 1963 bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, which killed four African-American girls.) Over the past few weeks, ten graduates and professors of the class of 1977, of various political persuasions, shared memories of Moore, both on and off the record, from his time in law school. Some remain in touch with Moore. A few consider him a friend or occasional ally. None, however, expected him to become a successful lawyer, much less a U.S. senator. (The Moore campaign did not respond to a request for comment.)

I told my wife I heard some news about Roy Moore, but she didn't know who he was. I explained he was yet another uber-religious nutjob "family values" politician, and asked her to guess what scandal came out about him today.
She just said, "I don't know..."
I replied, "Come on, it's a hypocritical family values Republican, surely the list of possible ironic scandals isn't that hard to guess from."
She asked, "Is he a child molester?"

Well, child-molester is a stretch given the ages, plus the usual assumption is busted for hitting on a guy in a bathroom because he didn't "pray the gay away" hard enough.

Agreed it's not exactly the current case (who knows what else will be revealed, though?), but still I was surprised she was so close. I would've started off with something more tame as my first guess like, "tried to solicit gay sex in a bathroom" (ah, good 'ol "wide stance").
In any case, just something that made me laugh.

It doesn't look good for Roy Moore, but one thing odd about this story, as I heard last night on conservative talk radio, is that the Washington Post isn't saying what sort of person told them about what Roy Moore allegedly did. The story simply says, in the middle, "Neither Corfman nor any of the other women sought out The Post. While reporting a story in Alabama about supporters of Moore's Senate campaign, a Post reporter heard that Moore allegedly had sought relationships with teenage girls." Obviously we don't need to know the name of whoever told the Washington Post, but is the newspaper not telling us anything more about the source because it's, say, somebody with the Democratic Party who was sitting on the information until revealing it would be most damaging for the Republicans?

Well we don't need to know that, probably won't be told it, and journalists have to balance anonymity with thorough verification. Regardless of the intentions of the person coming forward the Washington Post has done their due diligence in investigation of the claims.

Right now times are changing for people reporting sexual assaults and other crimes. Perhaps seeing Moore running again got someone to come forward about his behaviour and realize it may be taken seriously now when in the past such things have been readily dismissed. It's hard to say. I'd personally feel a lot more comfortable coming forward about these things now than ever before. Every allegation story coming forward had people sitting on information for years without a peep. Then it all came out.

Will it do anything against a republican in Alabama? Probably not, we'll have to see.

A great article

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/453632/roy-moore-defenders-disgusting

Speaking of laughable, some of the defenses of these accusations have been nothing short of atrocious. I mean, weve got Alabama state auditor Jim Ziegler actually saying that its all good because Mary was a teen and Joseph was an older guy, and without them hooking up then we wouldnt have Jesus. Yes hes not only using theology to defend pedophilia, but incorrectly using theology to defend pedophilia, seeing as the virgin birth is basically the whole reason for his religion in the first place.

But it doesnt stop there. We also have Joel Pollak of Breitbart swooping in to say that, like, only one of Moores accusers was 14 and that we shouldnt even be talking about the girls who were 16 and 18. First of all, if your defense of a pedophile is actually But he only molested one kid! then Id say its pretty clear you need to take a long, hard look at yourself in the mirror and wonder why the sight of yourself doesnt make you start throwing up. Second, one of these older teen accusers told the Washington Post that she was only 14 when Moore initially approached her, while she was working as a Santas helper at the mall. Not only is that vile, but its also very relevant.

These absurd defenses are certainly the things that stick out the most, but these people are not the only ones who are bothering me. Im also bothered by the silence especially coming from the people who rushed to their keyboards to condemn Hollywood rapist lib---- Kevin Spacey immediately after the Anthony Rapp allegations, allegations that are nearly identical to the ones that Corfman made against Moore. Its not that these people only care about victims if the abuser is a liberal, its that they dont really care about victims at all. For them, the abused are nothing more than political pawns to further a partisan agenda. Its sick, its disgusting, and it must stop.

Now, notice that I didnt call it shocking. Its not. Many of these people, after all, are the same ones who wrote off Donald Trumps Access Hollywood tape a literal admission of routine sexual assault as locker-room talk, despite 17 accusers coming forward to report the kind of behavior Trump discussed in the tape. No, the worst part about this isnt that its shocking, its that its not shocking at all. Its par for the course.

Oddly humorous fact: During the time period in which Republican Roy Moore is accused of doing most of his behavior (well, *all* five incidents I see), he was actually Democrat Roy Moore. Apparently he switched parties in 1992. >_> Apparently he was up to no good during the 80s as a Dem but, after switching to a Republican, he didn't seem to get into trouble. So either he found morality or... well, since predators tend to stay predators, it's a little weird that there *isn't* a chain of abuse to this current day.

Uh excuse me how about the far greater number of allegations from adults about sexual assaults and misconduct? Just because his assault victims were older does not make his behaviour acceptable or above scrutiny. He still has a history of wholly inappropriate behavior to teenagers and there's likely to be more to it. IIRC one of the allegations against Trump included him drugging and raping a 13 year old at a party.

New Roy Moore accuser: 'He didn't pinch it; he grabbed it'
http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2017/11/new_roy_moore_accuser_he_didnt.html

In interviews with AL.com, Tina Johnson recalls that in the fall of 1991 she sat in the law office of then-attorney Roy Moore on Third Street in Gadsden. Her mother, Mary Katherine Cofield, sat in the chair next to her. Moore sat behind his desk, across from them. Johnson remembers she was wearing a black and white dress.

Almost from the moment she walked in to Moore's office, Johnson said, Moore began flirting with her.

"He kept commenting on my looks, telling me how pretty I was, how nice I looked," recalled Johnson. "He was saying that my eyes were beautiful."

It made her uncomfortable. "I was thinking, can we hurry up and get out of here?"

At one point during the meeting, she said, Moore came around the desk and sat on the front of it, just inches from her. He was so close, she said, she could smell his breath.

According to Johnson, he asked questions about her young daughters, including what color eyes they had and if they were as pretty as she was. She said that made her feel uncomfortable, too.

Once the papers were signed, she and her mother got up to leave. After her mother walked through the door first, she said, Moore came up behind her.

It was at that point, she recalled, he grabbed her buttocks.

"He didn't pinch it; he grabbed it," said Johnson. She was so surprised she didn't say anything. She didn't tell her mother.

She said she told her sister years later how Moore had made her feel uncomfortable during that meeting. Her sister told AL.com she remembers the conversation.

Thorp said local women have not spoken publicly against Moore before now because he had power in town and in the state, and they didn't think they would be believed.

"Everybody knew it wouldn't matter," she said, "that he would get elected anyway because his supporters are never going to believe anything bad about him."

Johnson said the answer was even more simple.

"It's because somebody asked," she said. "If anybody had asked, we would have told it. No one asked."

Moore's lawyer admitted that Moore dated teenage girls, but that he never did so without their mother's permission. Because that makes it so much better.

A former mall employee said he was banned from the mall for harrassing the girls, because he'd go there frequently and try to pick up teenagers.

The reason this story broke was because a reporter who was simply covering the campaign heard these rumors, which were an open secret around Gadsden, AL. Moore was simply so powerful and well-liked in the town that people feared speaking out against him.

Yes, he 100% did this. And he's a fucking monster for using this as part of his campaign, claiming it's an attack on Christian values. This man is not of any god. He's a piece of shit and doesn't deserve life, much less a Senate seat.

Well... My memories of that time definitely included far too many older men going after very young women. People didn't do much about it. Not normal, but not uncommon.

Though that much of a gap in age and experience with a prominent person and people being ok, no, not so much...

Partisan politics will get people to defend anything if it means not agreeing with the other half. It's why republicans will jump through hoops to defend a pedophile and a misogynistic president, and why democrats refuse to acknowledge Biden's penchant for groping children. But hey it's just 'locker room talk' for Trump and 'Diamond Joe' being silly.
