Yes. In many Supermarkets over here they have their own brand products dirt cheap and they taste just as good as the brand ones.

depends on what it is, and what store. walmart brand sodas suck but food lion brand sodas aren't that bad and far cheaper than what they are selling the name brand for in the same store. was in there just last week and they wanted 5 bucks and some change for a 12 pack of soda, but only 2 bucks and some change for store brand. and their version of mt. dew to me anyways damn near tastes exactly the same.

walmart version of mt. dew though tastes like someone watered down mt.dew with mellow yellow.

Yes, a lot of what you're paying for with brand names is advertising. I'll regularly try offbrand stuff and continue to get it when I find something good.

Fuck yeah, i'll pay 75 cents for a big bag of no name chips rather than 2.50 for Old Dutch. Same with like PC coke or something.

yeah I used to shop at dollar general a lot because I didn't have a car and it was like 2 blocks away and they had 3 litter sodas for 80 cents versus name brand 2 liters for over a dollar.

fun fact

a 2 liter is generally less expensive than a 12 pack, by far.

two 2 liters equals the same amount of soda as in a 12 pack.

when you buy a 12 pack, you're buying the cans. it's usually half as expensive, or less, to just buy 2 liters.

cans last me longer though so ehh. i'm still probably getting my money's worth. I drink out of can slower than I do a bottle or glass/cup

and that also depends my local walmart jacks the price around on 2 liters 50-68 cents on a regular basis. but not that drastically on 12 packs or 24 packs. where they get you on those is they will at some time have it cheaper to buy 2 12 packs, than a case, and sometimes cheaper to buy a case over 2 12 packs

I dislike 2L bottles, it goes flat if you don't drink it quickly. A case of 12 is still a pretty good value, and whenever I open a can it's fresh and fizzy. Tastes better out of a can too, I find.

But, I also mostly drink Pepsi Next or Coca-Cola Life because I try to avoid too much sugar.

I agree that some products like mac and cheese are noticeably worse when buying the store brand. However, I often buy store brand mayonnaise, cheese, water, canned vegetables, cookies, perogies, spices, mustard, and tablets for lactose intolerance. Off the top of my head.

When it comes to fresh meat, though, I don't cheap out. And I definitely don't buy it at Wal-Mart.

Indeed. I normally buy from Ralphs/Krogen and their line of product for most stuff is good enough. Interesting enough, when it comes to off-brand products and this applies to any product, the product itself is usually good enough but it is the container that I find to be the most different.

Idk where it is where you are but here they often sell the exact same products, same company, same ingredients, same recipe "offbrand" meaning it's the same thing with a different name / brand logo and cheaper. Of course I buy those if I see them!

Then you have market specific brands, which can be hit and miss so I don't buy them as often.

Although, I kinda prefer offbrands tbh, as I hate advertising and I hate paying for it, so when it's suitable I'll always buy offbrand.

For things that don't really matter, just get the store default brand. Cleaning products, garbage bags, frozen veggies, dish soap, ketchup.

Things that do matter tho: salsa, toothpaste, deodorant, body wash.

As for the chips, I would say brand name is what you buy there. No-name chips just are not the same as some MIss Vickies. Pop would be the same thing. Everyone has a preference between Coke and Pepsi.

Yeah if its the same quality or a little worse but not something i care about.

Like for example, if I want soda or bread, I will spend more to get name brand, as IMO, its better.

but medicine i dont care.

Growing up my dad used to always buy the none brand products(unless top brand products were on offer for around the same price or it's found in the pound shops) and he always said that you're just paying for the packaging when it comes to top brand stuff. He's not wrong.
