Haven't been bullied in over 20 years now, so I don't really have a current approach.

Haven't really been bullied since middle school. Back then I'd just sort of roll my eyes and ignore them. I'm not going to assault them since that's just a life-ruining move to make, and I typically wouldn't trash talk them for fear of encouraging them to try harder, though there is a case to be made for making a scene and embarrassing the shit out of them in certain situations.

Was bullied once in grade 7, knocked the fat kid out in front of like 50 kids. Never seen the fat loser bully again.

Maybe bully wasn't the right word, I meant more like harassment.

Too often, I'd try to avoid/ignore, which just empowered the bully to keep it up for weeks, months, even years.

Eventually my bottled up rage would reach a limit, I'd snap, retaliate against the bully, and then he'd fear me and wouldn't fuck with me again. Went through that process several times throughout school. It's a shame I didn't have the willpower to fight back the first time someone bullied me and had to wait until I lost self-control, it'd have saved me a lot of misery if I had cut right to the chase.

Don't get bullied as an adult, at least not in such overt ways. If someone tried, I could just contact the police.

Avoiding or ignoring them won't make them go away, it'll just give them power over you.

I mean when Hitler invaded Poland the Allies didn't just keeping ignoring him as that was the last straw before they were forced to do something or else he wouldn't stop.

This I can relate to. Not exactly the same situation as it ended up closer to a fair fight but I came at them way more aggressively than they expected and it never happened again.

Threaten to physically assault them. And if that doesn't work, follow through.

That's sexual assault. Nowadays that's worse than genocide.

Question

It's very different handling bullies as a adult then when back at school. At school(up to my late teen years) I felt powerless against these bullies and had to put up with them. As a adult however I don't. I simply ignore them if the "bullying" is just verbal. If it gets physical however I do have a breaking point. By breaking point I mean it can become physical or if it was really bad physical bullying getting the cops involved. Granted it takes a lot to reach that point but it's still a thing. Thankfully I've not had any bullying as a adult though.

A few years ago, I was refilling at a gas station. A bunch of kids, around my age or maybe a few years younger than me started to verbally harass me from their car. At first I ignored them. They kept at it for about three or so minutes. I started to walk up to them so I could confront them, but then they sped off.

ignore. but I don't go out of my way to avoid them. I mean I got my ass kicked by a kid who lived down the road from me once and he thought because of that he could intimidate me into not walking past his house (and walking the long way around the neighborhood) but I just wasn't having that I told him one of two things would happen, either we where going to fight again and admittedly i'd probably lose again, or he was going to let me past, and it would continue to be like that everday, and did he really want to have to fight me everyday. he kept talking shit but he let me past.

as for the regular bullies who just talk shit I mostly just ignored them but if I was in a particular mood i'd snap back verbally towards them.

90% of my bullies left me alone in school though after I joined the football team. they still didn't like me and it was obvious but they kept their mouths shut. probably helped that one of them was also on the team and he was offense where as I was defense so I got to take some shots at him.

Hmm.....not much bullying growing up. In the corporate world though, bullying DOES happen. And those situations, I assert myself to avoid the bullying from happening. And then I end up bullying them instead. XD
