I've only handled the PS4 controller at a coworker's house, very recently (the last couple months), and it felt... weird, just because there's that giant pad or button in the middle of it that just seems to be adding a ton of blank space.

I get what he means. They use the same button letters as Nintendo but mixed them around (well Sega did first but still). PlayStation is completely different outside of X.

It's not always the primary button. The primary button used to be the button that was on the right hand side of the controller.

There's nothing unintuitive about either set-up. The only difference is that the Nintendo layout was first.

Nobody is thinking about axis or the alphabet when pressing buttons on a controller. They're inputting a command. It could be !, ?, & and % and it would do the exact same thing.

How long have you played on Xbox compared to Nintendo or other platforms?

Intuition isn't being trained into using the same button configuring for over a decade either. Are you trying to claim that people were expecting the Xbox configuration back in the SNES days? Because I have never heard anyone make the criticism that it was unintuitive outside of people used to Xbox.

It's not really about whether Xbox was the first controller to screw it up. It's about the fact that it is indeed screwed up and also the standard for PC gaming.

Plus if you're going to make an X/Y argument, it's still wrong since they have X going in the negative X direction.

I like that the 360 is backwards because when I go to play PC games with a Wii U Pro mapped to the letter the actions end up being put it in the right spots.
