So I do most of my shopping at a local mini store, where they hired a 60 year old bagger today who wouldn't let my doggy in because he said there were cameras and dogs weren't allowed and he probably didn't want to lose his job by allowing a dog into the store. My doggy's pretty much my only company and probably the collection of matter which I love most in this universe, and the owners of the store have no problem with her going in because she's a very smart, very human doggy. The owners love her, but of course the new bagger didn't know this, so when I said, "oh, don't worry, Laika's allowed here", he refused and instead blocked the door like a Zelda guard.

So naturally i became very upset when this new bagger not only didn't let her come inside the store, but also stomped the floor when my doggy tried to run in and inadvertedly hurt her. She gave sort of a yelp and I just flipped. I told him he was mad, that only someone cruel would hurt a doggy, and shouted at him for like 30 seconds, paid and walked out.

I was still very pissed when I got home and very afraid that my doggy had been harmed, as she was sort of hit on the stomach, and I was in a rush and went back into the delhi to shout some more at this guy. When I got there he was already being scolded by the owners and he had a very panicked look on his face, and a very different attitude. I shouted at him, would you do that to a 7 year old kid? You know you hit her (after careful consideration, I don't think he did, but I was very upset at the time), you heard my dog yelp. He sincerely apologized and looked to be in a panic. The owners of the store let me have a go at him verbally for a while, and I kept shouting, because I was very upset, but ultimately I calmed down, accepted his apology, and told him I wished he was right that Laica wasn't hurt.

I don't think he was a violent man, just somebody very old living in a very poor city, probably at a very real risk of going homeless who just wanted to do his job right. And I believe he was very sincere about his apology, which is why I feel so bad that he's probably going to lose his job today. On the other hand, my outburst was very instinctive, as I consider my dog to be almost my daughter. I think she isn't hurt, but I'm still paranoid. I don't think this man purposely hit her, I think it was a very accidental thing that happened.

So please help me feel better, guys.

TL;DR: The new 60-year old bagger at the store accidentally hurt my dog, I flipped, shouted at him for a while and he's probably getting fired no and now I feel really guilty

Why did you go back there to yell at him again

If you're actually even remotely concerned about his job go talk to the owners that you're friendly with and say you understand the mistake and don't want him fired

Dude didn't know about the allowance condition for your dog and was just doing his job.

Yes, he was out of line for having "stomped the floor", but he was probably just trying to get the attention of the dog, who, from the sound of it, may/may not have been on a leash.

Shit happens and I'm sure he's sorry for what he did. You might also just want to get her checked-out for whatever?

If you said to the owner "it's no biggie, don't fire him" they probably won't. No reason to feel guilty then. At least you're a decent enough person and understand the situation for what it is. I know a guy who got a teacher fired (basically he was being a dick and went to walk away and the teacher grabbed him by the shoulder. He milked the no physical contact rule for what it was worth and that was that)... Oh, and the teacher had a pregnant wife...

yeah this lol

to be fair he probably shouldn't have tried blocking your way into the store or anything like that, just brought the issue to whoever was in charge, but at the same time, you could just like, not bring your dog in the store when an employee asks you not to... i mean stuff like this is why they're typically not allowed in stores, the risk of someone getting hurt

I kinda put the blame on you tbh. You wanted special treatment. Most dogs aren't really allowed in grocery stores for various reasons, and you just had to bring the dog with you.

Dude was just doing his job (he shouldn't have stomped on the ground, but it was kinda your fault anyway).

When I worked retail I knew an associate that got fired for giving discounts to customers when they asked him. When cashiers deny any means to drop the price, its not because they have anything against you its just their job. Considering they're working this type of job they might not have many options at the moment and want to do it right, hate them or not. What he did to the dog was horrible. If it were me, I'd find a compromise: bring my pet home so they won't be stuck in the car (I HATE when people leave pets it cars. Have you seen the video with the dog dying as it pants shallowly when its owners went shopping in Ikea for a FEW HOURS? It was truly tragic and pitiful) then go back to shop. I assume its a local store, so it shouldn't be a hassle to drive.

He wouldn't let your dog in the store, yet you had items to pay for? Meaning you were in there at some point to make your purchase. Where was your dog during this time? This whole thing seems fabricated to me... not to mention no store owner would openly chew someone out and allow outsiders to join in. That would be considered harassment and workplace bullying which opens them up to lawsuits. However, if this did happen then you acted like a spoiled child who didn't get their way. Grow up. There are sanitary reasons animals aren't allowed in grocery stores. Your dog isn't a service dog, therefore should not be allowed in, regardless of your friendship with the owners.
