Cuphead really only does 2 things right.

1. Visuals, design, sound, obviously
2. And the feeling of satisfaction

It seems to just be a standard shooting platformer. I play these daily and I see everyone freaking out over cuphead and I can quickly boil it down.

Some say it's a trial and error, but that point is often countered by telegraphs... But just because you telegraph attacks, doesn't mean it's not trial and error.

It feels like artificial progression to me.

But it's still fun to play, but it's not some revolutionary master piece.

It isn't all that different from people arguing over which movie made the most money or which console sold more units. Or rooting for your favorite sports team. It's mainly a way for people with low self-esteem/identity issues to link their sense of personal identity to an external source, then process all praise for that thing as if it was praise for them, and see any critical comment about that thing as a personal attack that must be mercilessly crushed.

It's the same reason why people give a game like BotW a score less than 10/10 and start getting death threats from people whose entire sense of self-worth comes from their chosen identity as a Nintendo fan.

Or, to get a bit more controversial, it's the same way people latch their sense of identity and worth to external political parties and ideologies, or religion (or the lack thereof) and immediately feel compelled to shit on anyone and everyone who even remotely disagrees with their chosen world-view.

Horizon should be in the top 5 somewhere. I Still find it rather strange the game didn't get into the 90's.

**Also, the PS4 version of Edith Finch should be the one counted as it has 6 times the amount of votes the Xone version has. PS4 version has an 88, not 92 lol. Thus Horizon instead should be on the list.

Cuphead isn't that great of a game to be honest. Beautiful no doubt, and it functions well enough, but as an actual video game it just isn't anything special.

Pretty much THIS!

Honestly, I'm checking out Mario Odyssey now and yes while it looks great there are many games in the 70's-80's I'd MUCH rather play and find much more interesting.
