Members of all six groups were asked if they thought discrimination against their own group existed in America today, generally speaking. Ninety-two percent of African Americans polled said yes, as did 78 percent of Latinos, 75 percent of Native Americans, 61 percent of Asian Americans, 90 percent of LGBTQ people, and 55 percent of white people. Those who answered in the affirmative were then asked a follow-up question, prompting participants to consider if the discrimination they believe their group experienced was because of the prejudice of individuals or the result of laws and policies. Sixty-one percent of white Americans who were asked the follow-up question said that they believed the discrimination their group experienced came from individual prejudices. Only 26 percent blamed laws and policies, and 11 percent said both reasons were valid. That sentiment was in line with all six groups polled; the majority of each group said they believe that the prejudice of the individual was a bigger problem in the U.S. than the policies enacted. Another finding of the study suggested that income level influenced whether or not a white individual feels discriminated against. Affirmative Action helps white women and white men too in situations where they are the minority. In fact white women are the largest beneficiaries of AA. So no it's not discrimination against whites. That's why that follow up question is so important: white people are victims of individual discrimination. I get called "white boy" or worse every once in a while. I've met minorities who hate white people. Everybody (regardless of race) deals with that.
