Casino Night has tons of bumpers and it's mostly a left to right zone. Granted, it can be annoying for other reasons (getting perpetually stuck getting bounced around by bumpers because there are so many of them). You might be thinking of Mystic Cave or something. It's a night zone and there's a lot of vertical platforming there.

Metropolis is the worst Sonic 2 zone though.

Maybe. Or maybe I was pissed at the excess of bumpers and was just misremembering my actual beef with the level. Or maybe I hated both of them and mashed em together. But yeah actually Metropolis Zone was much worse now that I think about it. (and refresh myself on what it is by looking up the map)

Anyway I'm just saying I remember my experience with Sega Sonic games basically being "yeah that game was awesome except for that world" being a pretty persistent thing. Not something that happens in like Mario or Mega Man. That inconsistency kills in the discussion of best platformer for me.

Well, I guess Mega Man has those stupid ass blocks. But I got over those a lot quicker.

Honestly. I like every stage fairly evenly in Mario games. Like yeah some of em are tougher for sure but usually it's pretty satisfying to fail.

The worst of Genesis Sonic games have stretches where your hand is off the controller a lot (which honestly I think is what I meant more than vertical-- it's just the games have a fondness for lift platforms so they're pretty tied together) so it's a lot more of a slog.

I don't remember having any particular issue with Dire Dire Docks.

I guess saying I like every stage fairly evenly is misleading. But there is a certain quality baseline there. I don't dread having to do any levels-- I do like some more than others. Like I like Tick Tock Clock more than Dire Dire Docks for sure, but that doesn't mean I dislike Dire Dire Docks it just means I like the clock.

I think DDD is the only level in 3D Mario I really don't like. I actually do dread that damn level... I know it's gonna be 25 minutes or so of no fun.

The DDD stars in the starting area aren't the best. The rest of the level is good though.

The best star in the level (collect then caps) would probably be the only star in the top half.

The worst star in the level (100 coins) is the world star in all of 3D Mario. (Not including the blue coin stars cause of how random it is each star per 10

But anyway, this is exciting news. I think it's the first time since the N64 that a Nintendo console's Mario and Zelda offerings both received universal, best-in-the-industry praise.

As for what this means for the GameFAQs GotY polls, it means that both games will have to face off in the Switch poll. It would kind of suck if Allen only allowed one of those games to move onto the overall GotY poll. Sure, it would create LFF in the overall GotY poll, but even I think Zelda could win the overall GotY poll despite the LFF.

I realize I'm a bit late to the Galaxy 1 vs 2 conversation but Galaxy 2 didn't have any bullshit dolphin riding tilt bullshit so it's a good game while Galaxy 1 is a very bad game.
