to some degree but not fully. and then when they got to a certain age, not so much at all if I felt I could trust them to be at the very least as responsible as I was growing up.

Not really an either/or question. Unless you're a negligent parent or their captor, there's a lot of space in the middle.

yeah in some cases of kids being extremely sheltered they lose their shit when out in the real world finally. either they can't handle the pressures or life or they go balls to the wall with their newfound freedom and make a lot of bad decisions. my mom knew a guy who died because of that. as soon as he hit 21 and moved out of his parents house he was getting shitfaced every night, and was dead in 2 weeks due to drunk driving.

Society is corrupting and evil, but sheltering only makes kids more vulnerable.

Nah, only in the sense I wouldn't let them go the fuck anywhere but I also wouldn't contain them to the house either.

thats probably why its likely best to start off sheltering but ease up as they get older.

Well this is hardly black and white.

Any parent worth their salt should want their kids to grow up better than they did. What that entails is an intricate dance that isn't all or nothing.

Within reason... I mean I wouldnt want my pre-high school kid being exposed to more extreme things, but sheltering kids in general just makes them outcasts.
