Kellogs has agreed to redesign it's Corn Pops Cereal Boxes over it's racially insensitive artwork that shows a LONE Brown Corn Pop working as a JANITOR while all the yellow Corn Pops are having fun!!

It doesn't look bad at first until you see the out of the ordinary picture of cartoon corn pops hanging out at the retail mail...until author Saladin Ahmed called them out on Twitter stating the box is "teaching kids racism" because the lone and only brown Corn Pop of this bunch is shown as a janitor scrubbing the floor!!

The other corn pop characters are shown shopping, playing in an arcade or bathing in a fountain and one is even skateboarding down an escalator.

Saladin said "Yes it's a tiny thing but when you see your kid staring at this over breakfast and realize millions of other kids are doing the same.."

Within hours, the Michigan based maker said they will update the artwork soon as they said "Kellog is committed to diversity & inclusion. We did not intend to offend, we apologize. The artwork is updated & will be in stores soon"

Ahmed was appreciative as a spokesperson said they take feedback very seriously and they never intended to offend anyone.

I would never have even registered that he was black or brown or whatever if I wasn't told he's supposed to be. it's just a slight change in color tone. looks more like a coloring error than anything else

I'm sure it was unconscious prejudice or just a fluke, but you have to wonder why they didn't just make all the corn pops yellow. Maybe at one point there were many yellow and many brown corn pops in the picture, but then later the people at Kellogg's decided it looked better to have all yellow corn pops and just forgot to change that one corn pop's color? I guess you could say that it was due to unconscious prejudice that the artists didn't notice that the janitor corn pop was still brown, but we'll probably never know.

I don't think it was racist, I think it was just a stupid oversight.

So, I think now is a good time to discuss the concepts of unintended consequences and irony, which tend to go hand in hand.

- If Kellogg's had included no "colored" pops on the cover at all, it never would have faced criticism
- Complaining about it and forcing them to hastily change the art means the most appealing option is the simplest...get rid of the brown pop. So by crying racism (over corn pops...) you push them like the first point, to just not include any other "colors"
- Because they've already been called out as racist, simply removing the brown pop may just lead to further scrutiny, while as before, no one would have even made a fuss about an all-yellow community of corn pops
- Because this box cover art is being pulled so quickly, it will become rare, and thus for many years in the future, a collector's item. If those offended had said nothing, the art would've been around a while, went away, and no one would remember in 10 years, let alone 50. Now? It will be remembered for decades. (I don't understand the culture of rare collectibles of worthless shit, but it is a thing)

There's this guy at work, he cuts meat for a living, well he's got money is the bank (like crazy big amount) and works here because he likes it...it takes him out of the house for 8 hours and then he enjoys what he has. he goes on crazy cool vacation when he takes a time off (I think last time he was out for a week in Egypt), but you'd never know from just his work, SAME WITH THE BROWN CORN.

they probably print millions of boxes ahead of time and now, ALL OF IT is going out the window, 70-90% will be recycled, the rest garbage.

How do I know? I work in the food industry, we had a box that is printed (masala wine) typo (it's supposed to be marsala wine) so we had to ditch out 1000 pre-printed boxes out because of a typo.
