The most elite scientists in the world are still struggling to find why exactly our universe didn't destroy itself as soon as it came into existence. That's what science says should have happened but it clearly hasn't, since you're here reading this, as far as we know.

Until the current theory, at the start the universe there was a 1:1 ratio of matter:anti-matter. When matter and anti-matter comes into contact they convert each other to pure energy so no matter exists.

Frankly it's a stupid title. Even if there wasn't asymmetry in the early universe, the universe would still exist, it would just look difference. Anti-matter/matter reactions don't annihilate energy out of existence.

I dislike headlines like this.

What evidence do they have that this iteration of the universe is any less likely to occur than any others? If you're going to say things like "this shouldn't have happened," then you must have some idea of 'what should have happened.'

Basically, there is something preventing antimatter and matter from reacting explosively across the universe. Thanks. That's an observation that has been apparent from the moment antimatter was discovered.

No one, just making it more obvious how ridiculous their claim is.

Saying the universe should not exist, when you don't even fully understand everything about the universe to begin with, is silly. It's like saying "plants should not exist" just because we've never observed them eating something to stay alive (carnivorous plants aside), before we learned that they absorb nutrients from the ground and make energy through photosynthesis. We don't fully understand everything about dark matter, the universe, etc, so it's quite a leap to say it "shouldn't exist" when we don't actually know everything about what makes it tick to begin with. There is some element or property out there, probably many, that we have yet to discover, which would shed more light on things.

What they mean is that it doesn't make sense from what we currently know about it, which isn't really anything that wasn't already obvious
