Do you think it was fair to suspend Jim?

Conservative Veteran and Avid Trump Supporter, 67 y/o Jim Saddler, a former Air Force One Veteran and now a High School Referee has been SUSPENDED for over a YEAR after he dramatically walked out of a volleyball game he was set to line judge when he witnessed one female player take a knee during the national anthem!!

In dramatic fury, he exited the court at a North Central High School Women's Varsity game in Inddianapolis, Indiana.

He first grew anger when he saw visitors doing it but was set off when he saw a player do it and that was the last straw for him.

He admittedly said "I guesss i went AWOL..i feel bad about it"

But he couldn't help feel passionate about it as he was a retired Presidential Flight Attendant on Air Force One and said "In the Air Force, you have a duty, and you do it. After i thought about it, i would never do that again. I would never break a contract. What they did just upset me so badly that i just could not stay there. But i know it's her constitutional right to do what she wants to do, and it wasn't fair to the other girls who were standing and respecting our flag. After i thought about it, you know..sometimes it takes you a little more time to sit down and think about stuff and what you did. But i have to take the side of our President that maybe we should make standing for our anthem mandatory..People died to fight for this country and there's people still fighting for it today. If you are an American, then you must show it by standing".

Paul Loggan, the athletic director said that Jim is a "very well respected official and man" and said he did not lash out but regardless, his actions stirred controversy and was suspended for 18 months for it as it was a violation of the policies, purposes and rules and regulations.

Do you think it was fair to bench Jim? let's see what people think

Is that the typical suspension for a referee leaving a mid game or are they punishing him for his own form of protest?

Considering how many people are getting pissed off by the stupid, trendy kneeling, somebody really should punish them.

While I'm also all for suspending players who engage in their little hissy fit displays of disrespect, a guy not doing his job definitely deserves a suspension.

So, was he protesting the murdering of blacks by police offers?

Is he totally for the unjust shootings of black men who are running away and in no active danger to anyone.

Does he feel it's his right to think that cops should just choke to death a black man for selling cigarettes illegally, being of no actual danger to anyone in doing so...

Or are we pretending he thinks fascism in the name of forced patriotism and refusing people their right to protest, while claiming to protest himself because he thinks this is all about the flag or the military in any fashion like we're fucking idiots?

Just curious.

Like any rational person, he recognizes that their displays of disrespect are a declaration of disdain and hatred for this nation. As an ex-serviceman, his reaction is natural-- although his decision to just leave afterward (assuming he did; if he just came back, his action is no different their decision to kneel in terms of symbolic and utterly unprofessional gestures).

In general, despite your talk of fascism, throughout history it's been nearly universally understood that an attack on a symbol of a nation is effectively an attack on the nation itself which is why it's often been used while declaring war. However, Americans are free to wish "death to America" at the top of their lungs BUT that only pertains to the government not being able to arrest you. Individuals who engage in such displays while on an employer's time *should* be disciplined up to and including suspensions or firing.

I do not know, I do not care and it does not matter in the context of my question. People should be allowed to protest regardless of whether you or I disagree with the stated aims. He should still be punished for shirking his responsibility to referee, but it is inappropriate for them to extend the punishment for political reasons. That is all I was trying to figure out.

He had a job he was hired to do as a referee and he didn't do it.
I wouldn't have even minded if he walked out during the anthem and then came back to do his job for the match. But dude just up and left and didn't come back.
Surprised he wasn't fired.

ITP: Zang engages in lazy ass flaming

I imagine you'd also wholeheartedly approve of people who, disagreeing with a lack of free healthcare, choose to shout, "Death to America!" Whether or not you believe in their wrongheaded cause -- which entails believing in fictions like the completely debunked "Hands up, don't shoot narrative" -- the nature of the protest is unrelated to the thing being protested.

Sadly, the anti-peaceful protest crowd and their lack of interest in the reason behind the kneeling (rather than just clutching their pearls and whining about patriotism again) need to have a reality check so a suspension is a good call but a year seems disproportionate.
