My blood glucose and Hba1c are just above the line, so it's not serious diabetes yet. But I HAVE to lose weight, start exercising and stop drinking as much.

Doctor put in Metformin anyway to give me pancreas a break since it's working harder than it should.

It's good that this was found now than when I was 50 since it hasn't done any damage on my body yet.

I think I need to take a break from school, and take care of my body first.

It all sounds "easy" fix. But my mental state is the mountain I have to climb over to fight this thing, my mental state is what's caused this to happen to me.

Try taking vitamin D supplements. Not sure of the mechanism of action, but apparently it helps lower Hba1c levels over the course of a few months. Increases insulin sensitivity too.

I warned you and you didn't listen. :u

You still have a chance to undo this. Cut way back on the carbs and sugar starting RIGHT NOW. You can reverse it if you're lucky. Commit to something once in your life you lazy heifer.

You don't need to quit school either! Just stop eating like a pig! Write down every stupid thing you put in your goddamn mouth. I've been doing it since middle school.

Then why not DO IT. :v You can blame your mental state all you want, but at a certain point it becomes a question of willpower. You are actively in control of what and how much you eat. There are numerous things in life we have no control over but this is one thing you most certainly do.

Get it together.

just eat low carb things then. :v Meat, cheese, leafy greens, non-starchy vegetables. It isn't that hard. There are lots of good things to eat.

stop eating the carbs.

Alcohol believe it or not is not a huge problem. Well, if you drink excessively, then obviously you should decrease your drinking. But 1-2 drinks per day may actually help glucose and lipid control.

Try intermittent fasting. I cant personally vouch for it because Ive only been doing it for a few days. However, based on the research Ive been doing on it and watching the success of random normal people on YouTube, it seems like a decent way to go.

Almost everyone will tell you that youre going to die, youll lose muscle, youre doing damage to your organs, etc. All that is based on old out dated science. Your body doesnt go into starvation mode until 72 hours. Youre going to be resetting the clock long before that.

The general gist is to fast for 16 hours, then you have an 8 hour window that you can eat. My window is from 3pm-11pm. Any other time I do not consume any calories.

You have two fuel tanks. One runs on food the other runs on your fat. If youre constantly filling up your food tank, then your body never switches over to your fat tank. And youll have a hard time losing weight.

Calories in and calories out is the way to lose weight, theres just no other way around it. You can go to the gym and bust out those 2,000 calories you ate so that your body can access your fat reserve...or you can just not fill up the tank so your body accesses the fat reserve. Either way the same thing is happening in your body.

This is not a new concept. Eating 3 meals a day is a new concept and as a society we have gotten fatter and fatter because of it. Our ancestors, and people in certain parts of the world today, have long periods of fasting because food isnt always available. People would hunt for the food and they didnt always eat every day. Our ancestors were intermittent fasters. It was just involuntary at the time, but that is how our bodies have evolved.

Modern day predators do the same thing. They dont eat every day. During the time they dont eat theyre running on their fat reserves. Your body doesnt go into starvation mode if you have 100lbs of reserve fuel laying around. It makes no sense for your body to start eating its muscles and organs, the very tool that your body needs to get more food, when there is an abundance of fat laying around waiting to be used.

Metformin is good. Great starting point for treatment of T2DM and should be the backbone of most regimens.

It and empagliflozin (Jardiance) are the only 2 diabetes meds that offer a mortality benefit.

I'm going off coffee recently because the creamer that I used with it was the only time I had really concentrated sugar intake during the day.

Maybe you should go on a yearlong fast from alcohol or something - that might be a good impetus for some other healthy choices.

For your diet:

-Moderate amounts of alcohol and coffee are OK and may even be beneficial.
-Replace refined grains with whole grains.
-More nuts and legumes.
-Less soda and processed meats.
-Dairy appears to be neutral.
-Make an effort to get your calories from plant rather than animal sources.
