I mean the US wasn't really *the* global super power until WWII, and even after that we were in competition with Russia.

China will likely overtake us in 20 years or so, but there was a long period of America history where being an American meant very little. There were slaves, women couldn't vote, there was significantly less social mobility, and workers had almost no rights.

I am disappointed with the current administration and Trump is somehow worse than I thought he'd be. But your statement was fairly hyperbolic, imho. 1980s until now is the best period of American history, far and away.

No, it goes deeper than that. If you're on a team, and you have a fellow player agreeing "Yeah, we'll do this. Yeah, we'll do this." and then he doesn't do that? That's a problem. You've gotta be able to trust your teammates.

If he had been saying he was going to kneel the whole time, then it's different. Him saying "I'm going to kneel" is him upholding his values. But he lied and then took a knee, which is suggesting that he wanted the attention it'd bring by being the only one to do it. That's not upholding values, that's selfish.
