Are you surprised it bombed?

It looks like the box office prediction got ahead of themselves as grosses are now only at 12.7M Friday for a 32M weekend when they predicted 17-19 based and 46M..it appears the long showtime and confusing sequel has turned off viewers despite the high ratings...

let's not forget also that the original movie bombed too...

The movie also has a high 155M budget..the movie did worse than Ghostbusters..

Are you surprised it bombed?

I never saw a single commercial for it. A few ads on the internet but that's about it.

You must live under a rock then, there's been a crazy amount of advertising for it. That said, I'm not super surprised since the trailers were pretty misleading and most people these days seem to hate Blade Runner. (Which the sequel is quite faithful to in terms of tone and pacing)

I didn't know it came out already. But I didn't even hear about the movie at all until like, last week. I agree it should just be called Blade Runner 2.

Really? I felt that they didnt really do enough. I loved the original, but however they targeted this, it seems to have eluded me. I wasnt aware it was out yet.

I thought the trailers looked good, and i've seen it on tv constantly, but of course that could be the channels I usually watch, but like sometimes I put it on Crime tv and I don't think i've seen a commercial for it on there.

Yeah the only tv I really watch is Adult Swim after I get off work. Nothing there or on youtube.

I didn't see any tv commercials for it and I can't recall seeing many online ads but, since I adblock most things, that last bit isn't surprising.

Guys I've seen multiple commercials for this thing during like football games while I was at a restaurant; the advertising was there. If you don't have cable and you never go to the theater I could see not ever seeing a trailer, but if you've ever watched TV in the last few months, you've seen a commercial for it.

So you think people were like "Screw that movie it has a future date in its title!". The first movie didn't set the US box office of fire grossing 27 million over its entire run back in 82 which made it the 27th highest box office of films in 1982.

There is a reason it didn't get a bunch of sequels back in the 80s and early 90s.

Not surprising. The advertising was probably extremely confusing for people who aren't familiar with the original, people who liked the original probably found the ads confusing as well.

Blade Runner was pretty niche back when it was new, movies full of subtext and non-verbal dialog are even more niche these days.
