The 2007 cultural turning point theory is actually really gaining traction.

I mean... just because it's becoming more popular doesn't necessarily mean it's more right.

As an example, the Flat Earth theory is also gaining traction. Does that mean I should start believing that the world is flat and the universe revolves around it?

(Also, even if it did have merit, the fact of the matter is that it's literally all he posts about. It's the same reason people are annoyed at vegans, self-described skeptics, and evangelical proselytizer)

I have barely posted about it the past few months, mainly because I believe that era ended around 2015/2016 with maybe a few remnants into the start of this year.

But i mean you can not deny that late 06 through early 08 was what caused all this mess we live in. The internet being centralized around that time. And people who are very bright are starting to realize that we were living in 2007 for a long while, and its what caused Trump who brought in the new era for better or for worse. Show me an academic person who believes in flat earth BS. And no Kyrie Irving doesn't count because he went to Duke for a year.

Social media + the internet in our pockets = bad things. Both those things rose to prominence in 2007 (spare me the "gamefaqs is social media and that was around before 2007" shit, you know what i mean when i say social media. Modern era).

Trump is lblock on the national stage. Thats how fucked up things are.

if i wanted to use a counterargument i'd actually use myspace - that's been around since 2003 and was really big. but yeah, after that facebook became a gazillion times bigger than myspace, obviously.

You arent wrong about Myspace, but the thing is its not really around anymore. The ones that got big in 2007ish are still the biggest players in the game

Facebook (opened to general public, also the year it overtook myspace and exponentially grew iirc, but that mighta officially happened in 08)
Twitter
Youtube (bought by google in real late 2006)
Tumblr
Netflix starts streaming

Then offshoots like instagram (which was bought by facebook) happend a bit later.

Myspace also never got to the traffic Facebook was getting by 2007/2008, and was on the decline. Hell i remember reading in like 2011 Facebook was getting more traffic than the rest of the internet combined in some countries. Myspace never opened up much past teens and real early 20s too, in 07 Facebook was already working on grabbing the Gen Xers and non high school/college people in general.

Its social media in general, but when it was just millennials it wasn't large enough, and wasnt in our pocket. Also when social media was just millennials the oldest millennials were maybe 20/21, and most likely elem/middle/high school aged. People with not much power/significance in the world. Gen Z barely existed, as the ones that had been born were like 3 at the oldest. Now all the Gen Z people are already born, and some are close to college.

Gen X, out of the 4 major post WW2 generations (boomers, X, millennials, Z) is actually the smallest problem imo. They seem to be the least "look at me look at me" types. Not that they are perfect or anything. But it is somewhat noteworthy that unless you consider Obama a gen Xer (which he kinda qualifies for, but also very arguable a boomer), we might not even get a Gen X president. In 2020 we might see a real late 70s/early 80s born president, which would be millennial pretty much. Or Trump wins again and its still a boomer.

barely. Most define millennials as born starting around 80/81/82 true. Some define millennials start point as 78/79/80 though.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennials#Date_and_age_range_definitions

The point is, we might not see a straight up gen x president. I mean technically you could say we never had a straight up boomer president, because W, Clinton and Trump were all born in 46, the beginning of the baby boom. But the end of WW2 in 45 was such a definitive starting point that nobody really tries to argue that Trump and W were on a cusp between the silent generation and the baby boom, we just say they are straight up baby boomers.

Obama born in 61 makes him between boomers and gen x, kinda either or.

I mean if buying across state lines actually was beneficial, then I'd be all for it. If it actually helped, I don't see why anyone would be against it. But it doesn't.

Probably. We don't actually know e.g. the dollar amounts on these brackets, so it could turn out that, say, your first 10k of income is untaxed, but I certainly wouldn't expect that.

The NFL is losing ratings partially from right wingers who hate the protests, but mostly because:

1) Youth are not watching it as much, and also not playing as much (possible due to CTE?)

2) The league put too much stock into QBs, modifiying the rules for them, that came of age sometime in the mid 00s. Passing TD records were starting to be shattered year in and out (Manning's 04, Brady's 07...uh oh). Manning is gone, Brady is 40, Brees is ancient. Roethlisberger, Rivers, Eli ("best qb class evarrr!") are mid 30s. Rodgers is 33, tail end of prime tbh. The current crop of in their prime QBs are guys like Matt Ryan, Andy Dalton, Russell Wilson, Matt Stafford, Cam Newton. Guys in shit markets, or boring, or both. Another fun fact: the whole "man Andrew Luck is gonna have a cabinet full of MVPs" crowd needs to shut up, hes 28. He should be in his early prime by now, and honestly people are still somewhat acting like hes some young up and comer.

3) Last year and definitely this year's rookie RB class shows the next era will be more running game, similar to the early 00s when the league revolved around Brady, Manning, but also Tomlinson, Alexander, McCallister, Bettis, James, Hearst, etc.

4) The biggest storylines are repeating year in and out, mostly revolving around New England dominance/scandals. I mean we've been living the Pats 07 16-no season for a while now (preseason people were comparing 07 and this year's team asking who is better ffs), and people are bored of it. Its not fun social media talking points anymore. Deflategate was such a fucking joke for extra drama/ratings and people are tired of it tbh. The league needs less patriots dominance and drama, and dominance and drama from other franchises too.

There's this thing past the headline that's called 'the article'. If you actually read it, you'll see that he's not contradicting himself at all.

The Ratings decline has little to do with a few players not standing for the anthem. There's many factors to the ratings, including: Oversaturation (Thursday, Sunday early game, Sunday late game, Sunday Night football, Monday Night Football) Lack of Parity (contributing to the fact the same teams win every year) and the fact that tv ratings overall are down as people turn to other sources and cut the cable.

What a naive viewpoint. You do realize good things have come about, too, right? Support networks have increased, socializing is easier than it ever has been, even for introverts, and now there's no excuse for not fact checking (unless you believe that all fact checking websites are of the devil or something)

Listen. I respect you when you're not talking about The "cassulll revtuoin of 20987". But when you do talk about it, I get this grimace on my face:

It's as annoying as militant veganism is. Focusing explicitly on the negative of something (meat, social media/pocket internet) in order to push an idea and shoving it down people's throats when they don't immediately agree with you.

Also, calling it the "Casual Revolution" just reminds me of modern day gaming culture's obsession with blaming casuals for everything they don't like in video games, which just further pisses me off.

This is the last time I'm addressing this. I'm not going to treat your silly theory with any more credibility than this, no more than I treat militant veganism.
