I haven't looked into it at all, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was unconstitutional (like it would be here). That doesn't excuse the violence or arrests, though; if that's the case they should just say that the vote's invalid for that reason.

Right. Just let the vote happen and then address it.

Man I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the idea of calling hurricane victims begging you for more help "ingrates." The sheer ego required is astronomical.

And this is the man that represents us globally.

Much happier Trump is in office than Hillary. By far the better choice all things considered.

It is democrats fault that Trump is office for allowing Hillary to be their candidate.

I'm starting to lean more towards blaming the Electoral College. Not the undemocratic idea of it in principle, but the actual people involved.

Isn't this the exact sort of situation their existence was designed to protect against? Isn't this the reason why we actually go through with the process instead of just automatically declaring the person with the most Electoral numbers the winner?

Curious

Least favorite thing is his wording in situations that causes issues and his failure to repeal Obamacare.

Favorite thing is all ideas at this point. He hasn't accomplished anything really so far. Maybe his tougher immigration policies.

As of now he has been a relatively lacklusters President that can be good if he ever is able to accomplish his ideas. A lot of Republicans are disillusioned with our Senate moreso than the actual President at this point.

It amazes me the entitlement from the Left. This is two stories now in what 60 days maybe where the left has criticized people for helping.

1. Trump donates to the Harvey Relief from personal funds.

Response: Wow what a piece of shit. He only donated that much? He should be ashamed. He could have donated way more. That's like a normal American donating 17 bucks!

Newsflash a donation is a donation. He could have gave nothing. Why would you not be happy he did?

2. FEMA is on the ground for over 40 days with tens of thousands agents helping Puerto Rico recover after they spent however many days and time in Harvey and Florida already.

Response: People are dying. You are terrible. You go straight to hell for your terrible behavior. We need help, and you aren't helping.

Newsflash: They are helping. There are reasons that make it so much harder to help due to the way the Island was beforehand and by the fact it was an island that got effectively 100% smashed. People doing everything to help in a situation where your current leadership had you so weakened to the point that this scenario was even possible, and you are criticizing the help. Wild.

16 people or something have died in Puerto Rico. 1800 or something died with Katrina.

How many died in Harvey? It is easy to complain instead of support the efforts.

I don't think I ever heard that criticism about Donald's donation to Hurricane Harvey in the sense that a million dollars isn't enough. To me, it's always been about how him donating $1,000,000 isn't a "real" donation when he's charging the Secret Service so much to stay at his hotels and such. He's still getting paid by government money in an upsetting way and I'm not going to give him credit for using a different check to give it to victims now. That's just redirecting the praise taxes are responsible for.

There was also the question on if he was even paying with his personal money or his foundation's, which he hasn't added his own money to in nearly a decade.

That's my understanding, yes. But! The modern Electoral College isn't just a rubber stamp, it's expected to be a rubber stamp. I believe in some states it is actually against the law for electors to not vote for the candidate that won their state. We gutted its ability to serve as a safety net, but left it in place as a vote distorter. Can't honestly blame the last set of electors for that.

I mean, you want to argue we should abolish the Electoral College, I'm behind you all the way; its only remaining effect is to make votes more significant in some places than others, which does not strike me as a function worth preserving.

(Well, I guess that's not fair, it's not inconceivable that a third party could do well enough that no one wins a majority and Congress picks the winners. Although that's only happened once in 200+ years.)

Jakyl, you might find this an interesting read.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faithless_electors_in_the_United_States_presidential_election,_2016

Highlights: seven electors defected in 2016 (mostly against Hillary), three more attempted to defect but their "faithless" votes were discounted. Additionally, long before 2016, the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of state laws which compel electors to vote in accord with their state.

And here's the light at the end of the tunnel:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Popular_Vote_Interstate_Compact
States joining the NPVIC agree that if the NPVIC contains a majority of electoral votes, they will give all their electoral votes (and therefore an automatic victory) to whichever candidate wins the national popular vote. Until then, it has no effect.

However, I really don't think the modern Republican Party has any interest in granting additional power to the national popular vote - it's clearly an area where they struggle, and demographics aren't helping. So I don't expect the NPVIC to go anywhere. But! It's the best attempt I've seen to work around the Electoral College's vote distortion.

I've always thought the idea of counting votes by geographical location was kind of dumb.

I mean if you're a democrat in Texas or Alabama, your vote is meaningless. You might as well not vote at all. Same goes for if you're a Republican in California or Connecticut. Your vote only really counts if you live in a swing state.

This goes fro Representatives too. If you live in a solid red or solid blue district, your representative doesn't really represent you if you vote the other way.
