First, let me say one of the great things about this country is you can speak the way you desire - having the freedom to express yourself.

Second, let's get to the main point: Football fans watch the games to get away from reality. I have enough reality in my life Mon thru Friday, and Sunday is my time to escape into a world of yards, inches, and grown men playing football. I don't want politics. Would you want your next Final Fantasy game to feature BLM? Or Colin Kaepernick? Or Neo Nazis? or real life politics? Do you turn on your video game system to experience more reality - or do you turn it on to get away from reality?

Answer that question, folks.

That's what football is to us. It's the same thing as you turning on your video games and getting away from reality so that you don't go insane.

That's what these millionaire athletes have to understand. If you wish to support or be out-spoken about the issues in this country, do it on your own time. The local radio sports programs will be more than happy to take your call - trust me. If you're telling me a Cowboys fan radio station isn't DYING to take a phone call from Ezekiel Elliott, then you're out of your mind.

You can make your stand in other ways and get people's attention in more positive ways. Sports radio is a BOOMING industry - and that's really where stuff like this should be taken. Trust me - during Wednesday and Thursdays these sports radio hosts have nothing to talk about. The game ended two days earlier, and Friday is more of a hype day for the next game. That's where you go with this shit. Maybe write a book - or start a fund-raiser and advertise it on sports radio.

That's how you get people to notice the issues. Use sports (the popularity of the game) as the spring-board, and on your own time, go on the radio.

Done. Problem solved.

Until then, stand up.

you are allowed to turn the game on after the Anthem ya know? You dont have to sit through it if it's going to trigger you so badly. Same way you probably turn the channel during commercials.

Exactly. People overlook the fact that a uniform represents unity and teamwork. you can't have one guy wearing blue and the rest wearing white, just like you cannot have one person kneeling during the anthem.

Just as free dress doesn't fit in the workplace, you give up your right to make radical statements when you join a team. If your club tells you to follow certain ethics, then you do so.

Yes, and you can peacefully protest by going on the radio and being outspoken. This is how we handle issues - we talk about them. That's the best way. You gotta TALK about the issues and get people involved. You can't just kneel and go "well i'm done. That'll change things!"

basically.

when you strip down all of the excuses and fuckery, and leave the truth naked... that's the truth that stands out.

these people know this and they're faced with the same rebuttals every day so they already know better. it's cognitive dissonance, and I choose to no longer be polite in the face of deliberate ignorance.

I mean, I get what you're saying about the whole "they can call in and talk about it Monday thru Saturday" or whatever, except that the anthem isn't part of the game
like, most people watching at home use that time the same as they do during commercials -- it's time to refill snacks, grab some beer, go to the bathroom, etc.

not to mention that when players do tweet about issues they get told to stop by "fans" so it's not like this compromise you want will really help things, a ton of sports radio and programming get complaints when it's not 100% about sports

and really the purpose of kneeling is to bring attention to their issues and reach a wider market. a lot of people watch games that don't listen to the radio or watch ESPN

Or they can just not tune in for the national anthem. Or watch the game on mute so they don't have to hear the commentary. Or watch the Red Zone channel where it flips back and forth between games so all you're getting is game footage.

If 1 minute of a dude kneeling fucks up your viewing experience, you can go to hell.

At this point, Trump stupidly drew another line. In making that dumbass tweet, he turned this into "Stand if you're with me, kneel if you're against me", so the players are merely obliging. I guarantee you, that if he'd kept his fat mouth shut, you'd have a lot less happening.

Here's my thoughts: The owners of the teams ultimately decide if they want their players to stand or whatever. And that decision comes from how much money they're making. If people get offended and stop purchasing merchandise and tickets, then they'll probably come down on the players. But if not, they won't care. Keeping this in the news is ultimately good for the NFL, because they're a business and it's free advertising. As long as people and advertisers aren't distancing themselves in droves, then there's really no reason for them to have players stand if they don't want to.

Secondly, Trump should shut his damn mouth. It is highly unprofessional and comes off as borderline authoritarian when he makes that kind of public statement. Literally throwing fuel on the fire for no good reason.
