It's completely impractical. Depending on the game it can leave you with almost no health, if it misses you're really open for attack, it has bad range, and it's relatively slow.

But if you land it you're a god, so it's worth it.

I used to play Yoshimitsu (not my main though) in Soul Calibur 2 and 5, and I only landed it like three times across both games. But damn, it felt amazing when I did.

I started Atelier Sophie and they said atelier like "at-leer" and I'm positive that's not how you're supposed to say it unless there's multiple ways to say it or they did it that way on purpose.

Also, "Complete settings" is probably the weirdest phrasing I've ever seen for a confirm button in a game.


Does Sophie have the same thing as the other Atelier games I played where voiced English dialogue is only a fraction of the Japanese voices?

Ahh, that's always really annoying. I'm fine with watching anime in Japanese, but for video games I really prefer playing in English.

tbh the kanji is literally just "big hole". So it's maybe not wrong but it sounds extremely stupid. Even if you want to go with that word choice (which you don't) it should be "big archeozoic hole" because of how adjectives are ordered in english

If it's just silly small things like that, I don't care. Little typos and awkward phrasing like that can be funny. So long as we aren't talking Lux-Pain translation quality, I can usually work with it. Some VN's on steam doe...

Also, I still have to play the first 7 Ys games. Only played origons. >___>

It makes sense if it's the kind of character to make up words on the fly. Like, there's one orc in Elder Scrolls Oblivion whose entire dialogue is just malapropisms and non-words, but he's someone trying to sound smarter than he is and doesn't really understand what he's saying.

For the abominous line, (Persona 5 spoilers) it's stated by Yusuke regarding Madarame's Palace. The character might be a little out there, but he's not really the sort I imagine to create or misuse words in a serious moment and I don't remember such a thing happening at his other serious dialogue moments but maybe I missed that too.

Persona 5 has some awkward phrasing but I thought it was perfectly understandable with context. It wasn't like those things where they direct you to an area but it was a msitranslation and the actually meant something in the complete opposite direction.

And now I'm just thinking about the IMHHW translation again and that was... just a mess. I wish I played Lux-Pain just to experience what you're talking about.

If you can fully understand lux-pain, you can fully understand any poorly translated game. That game is legendary. Imagine what happens when one compant and two subcontractors divide the work of translating different portions of a Japanese game and only the subcontractors know how to properly translate, and there is 0 communication amongst the three of them about any details whatsoever about the games plot, characters, and settings.

That is Lux-Pain.

It's been awhile, but I think I remember there being signs of the town the story takes place in being in both California and Japan. Like Phoenix Wright, except not consistent. What's amazing is even though the translation is so bad, I still love the game and want an anime of it. >_>

to be honest, there wasn't really that big of a deal made about persona 5's english release for a long time, and even then there are still lot of people who claim there's nothing wrong with it so in the end it seems most people don't really care. I guess the next test will be seeing how the danganronpa 3 TL is received

Also, speaking of translation quality, look at a number of Funi dubs anymore...they're putting random SJW stuff in it for literally no reason other than to promote an agenda.They've done this in at least three dubs I'm aware of in only even the last 1-2 years.

But I mean, even a professional is gonna fuck up once and a while. For example, you could go to any bookstore and open up any book and I guarantee there will be a mistake somewhere. Nobody is perfect, and Japanese is a bitch of a language. I mean abominous and big hole? That's nothing. Small stuff like that honestly makes it feel more human. Like a messed up word or phrasing makes the character feel more human, because people make mistakes. They feel more real that way. Know what I mean? I don't know if I'm making any sense or anything. I look back at one of my favorites, Ever17, and "Naturally I knows the hacker." Like it's a mistake, obviously, but at the same time, something a kid would say. The mistake made it feel more real.

Now what I can understand, is a big massive butchered translation, like someone just running it through google translate and calling it good. Or the infamous Duwang Translation of JoJo Part 4. Where it's just a bad translation. I could also understand when a translator adds in shit that wasn't there to begin with, or completely rewrites or changes shit because why not? That, I can understand being upset with. Not the small shit.

It took like 3 fafners to tediously take down one festum but now a bunch of literal rookies are slaughtering elite versions of them by the dozen. I like how they're referencing the OVA. It wasn't for naught after all
