That being said I'd say in the general case it's no.
But like, for the Record Keeper thing, I spent a couple hundred on that before the game eventually got to a point where I wasn't enjoying it though. I played it for a good year and I don't regret the decision to drop it, nor do I regret the decision to play it-- had I played it for say 5 years and spent 1k instead, I probably wouldn't take that as wasting my money either. Some people might, though. Had I spent $1k in that 1 year though, maybe that'd be a problem. I really don't know. Definitely not f2p gacha games though. You never win when gambling with against a machine. You win pretty often actually depending on what you're drawing for. The key is to put a spending limit on yourself before drawing and actually sticking to that and accepting your loss should it occur, and doing it in moderation. A lot of people don't do that which is why the spending on those games gets so outrageous-- do it for a character or item or two once in a great while though? It's just simple probability to know your odds, and it'll often be well over 50% with even a modest amount spent. Would I rather have like 10 of my dumb league skins (I have well over this) or a 68% chance at a character I really want in Brave Exvius? I'd probably roll the dice there cause those skins are pretty whatever. (especially now that I've long since dropped League, but you know) --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! ... The key is to put a spending limit on yourself before drawing and actually sticking to that and accepting your loss should it occur, and doing it in moderation. My spending limit on a gacha would be $100 per character/item during event. That amount gives me very low chance of getting it, so I never bother. I can spend more but at that point I'd rather just spend the money on physical items. For League skins I don't care about the price because I buy skins for characters I play. So it's like yea I spend $100 on skins but I'm playing that character for 50 games straight and the skin is guaranteed. I have Firefox/Popstar/Arcade/Star Guardian, that's like $60+ right there but I've gotten many hours of enjoyment out of her and the skins never get powercreeped. --- 2 line break(s), 160 characters allowed ... I know I probably spent about £300~ on Marvel Heroes during the 3 years I played it actively. It's easy to do, when each transaction is pretty small. I rarely, if ever play it now. I occasionally just log in to get bonuses on special occasions now, just in case I ever decide to get back into it.
So, yeah, I'd say it's okay to stop. I had fun playing it and I got a few hundred hours out of it, so I don't feel like the money was wasted. i can't tell if you're asking whether spending $1000 is okay, or whether it's okay to quit after spending $1000
if the latter, this is literally the sunk cost fallacy. the $1000 is gone, and continuing to play isn't going to get it back. you should do whatever is the best. continuing to play when you don't want to because you are embarrassed to be perceived as wasting money is stupid --- You did indeed stab me in the back.
