2002/2003 were good in high school, but 2004 was horrendous. I lost a lot of friends for no particular reason, several people just stopped talking to me. I was burned out from all the school work in senior year and my grades went down in every class. I remember I was on the verge of failing a class (AP English?) but ended up with a 65.

2011 was similar, lost a lot of friends and work was going pretty bad. I was having some really grim thoughts until a girl I know randomly messaged me wanting to hang out.

2016 was another bad year all-around, including several deaths in the family.

July of 2016 til probably the end of the year due to breaking my arm, being in a cast for months, doing months of physical therapy to still need a second surgery which agitated my radial nerve and has been bothering me since may and likely will continue to for the rest of the year.

2016, diagnosed with Hodgeskins Lymphoma and had to go through chemo treatments. At first they could not figure out until after the 2nd surgery after taking out one of my lymph nodes which the x-rays showed that were huge. Finding out what it was scary enough let alone being constantly going back and forth to the hospital. Giving countless blood samples and all that stuff. I'm in remission now.

2001 I joined the miltiary, 9/11 happened. I was deployed to Pakistan for 2 years. It destroyed my relationship with my fiance, it ruined a lot of my humanity, and was in general hell for a 19 year old into being 21.

Looking back on it, I regret nothing, I wouldn't be with my current wife as our marriage of 13 years has been incredible, but i'm so desensitized to a lot of things that normally would affect normal people.

I guess it was 2016. It's the year I pretty much gave up on my dreams.

It started off with the death of my idol (Lemmy), so my motivation to keep making music tanked and never really came back. I was at my peak in the months before that, doing rough home recordings of my first few songs. It also seemed like nobody gave a shit and I couldn't find bandmates or figure out how to take the "next step."

I was also pretty far behind on bills, so I tried moving my best friend out to live with me, but he couldn't get a job and we both ended up having to move back home from WA to the east coast. I stopped caring about the job I used to love and quit that too. I even got tired of drinking and smoking all the time, so I pretty much quit those.

Then there was the non-stop political shit show that still hasn't really ended.

2010-2014.

My parent got divorced which resulted in reacting in very dangerous (not just to themselves, but to me and my siblings as well) ways... they ended up in a violent relationship and I witnessed some things no teenager should ever have to see...

It ended once we moved out of the state back to where my parent and I were born.

My second semester of my 7th grade year. While I lived through it, I thought it was fun, but looking back, that truly was a terrible year.

Sophomore year, I let myself down, and I had a crush on this girl who I shouldn't have had a crush on tbh.

For some reason, this year I have had many times of falling into a state of feeling worthless. My emotions are starting to creep up on me and crush me.

The times in middle school were full of asshole. The first three years were back in middle school where I was a bit of a slacker in school and I got bullied the most. I thought I was cool for doing things such as hating on Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black for the sake of it, only for bullies to take advantage of that to harass me. Considering that I was terrible at being witty as well as having a crap temper back then didn't help. At the time, the newest console I owned was the Wii, and people made fun of me for that. Needless to say, I was one of the more unpopular kids back in school.

Freshman year of high school would've been a breeze if some degenerate didn't steal all of my money from my wallet during gym class. I'm still puzzled to this day about how it even happened. I never showed my wallet to anyone, let alone actually pulling it out of my backpack. It's as if someone basically walked in the locker room to specifically target my wallet which was in my backpack. This was never solved.

Also during freshman year was the time where downloading pirated games started having its repercussions on me. My brother once told me that he got an email that I illegally downloaded GTA. He warned me bitterly, but I thought it was a fluke. It wasn't. One morning he stormed in my room, clearly furious at me because of the same reason. He forced me to show the game file to him, and when he did, I thought it was game over for me.

I never pirated anything ever again and I've been trying to make up for it ever since.

It feels weird to complain about it... Especially after reading through the topic.

IIRC, it was my first year of highschool. I was finding out that the world works very differently than I thought it did, it was scary. My mom had a medical condition that was getting worse... At the same time, she was trying to get me to make friends with just about anyone, and hang out with family members that clearly didn't like me.

We had financial problems, the power and hot water would go at random. So, it felt like I was freeloading off a friend of mine. I wasn't even sure if I could say we were friends, considering this was the situation I met her in >_>

School work seemed like too much on top of all that. Although, at the time, I though I was just increadibly incompetent. I looked like a mess most of the time, didn't get enough sleep, and people were clearly treating me differently... That all made the idea of going to school even less appealing. And it didn't seem like I had much of a future as an adult... I feel like it's downplay actual depression to say that I was ever depressed, but that's probably the closest I was.

All of that seems so long ago, and totally irrelevant now. This has been by far my best year so far :D

May/June 2012 to onwards.

Girlfriend died in 2012, and it has been really horrible since then. Lots of harsh comment towards me from the people that were close to her, thinking it was solely my fault for that incident.

I thought it would be a good idea to choose what she loved doing it, Accounting, but god I really hate it. 5 years studying it, and I only need 2 more classes to finally clear all that nonsense.

But I'm glad I did that. I'm sure she would be proud of me. At the least, at least 2 more person would be.

Let's see. 2005 was especially trying, as I had just lost my mom on Boxing Day 2004. 2007-09 were also bad because I was laid up with back problems (imagine spraining a ligament in your back from a fucking coughing fit), then dealt with some anxiety and depression issues as a result. Those were probably the hardest years of my life.

2012. Lot of bad and random shit happened to me that year. Obviously some of it was my fault, but some of it most certainly wasn't. Since then, I've had both very good years and a lot of meh. Still haven't really felt as good as I did pre-2012. I do believe things will realign within the next year or so though...

2008 was my best year so far. Lost my virginity in high school, started creative writing with a vengeance, suddenly had a good group of friends I could hang out with, and also did really well in some school competitions which I won't specify here.

2017. Debt. Had to move twice into less appealing living situations. Now have long transit to work and back that makes me feel more drained thus having even less of a chance of working toward my actual goals of becoming successful. But there's still months left, and maybe I'll make it better.

My best year would be harder to determine. I struggle to find a year I call good. Maybe 2006 because I was doing the best at math competitions then, and I thought for sure I'd have made something of myself long before now and had a solid income and family and all that and no debt. I imagine myself from 2006 would feel profoundly disappointed in my current self in 2017.

Another option for best year would be 2014, as that year involved a good move across the country and a name change.
