I post this AGAIN, because someone just delete my first post and I don't know WHY?!
Normal TVs are better for gaming in my opinion, and they have much lifetime as well.
I'm not talking about modern games, I'm retro gamer. PSX and SNES games look ugly on LCD. What kind of TV do you use for retro games?

My CRT's picture is now pink, so I've switched to an LED TV.

I like crt's for the science behind how they work. How someone thought of shooting electrons at a phosphorus coated glass tube with all the air sucked out using magnets to steer the electrons blows my mind. I think about it every time I rebuild an arcade monitor.

they're factually better for games made before the ps3/360 came out.

but for anything else?

they're complete trash.

we literally have tv's now that can be used as wallpaper, that's fucking insane.

I hated CRT's in the 90s. I hate CRT's in 2017. They did their job, but they're not needed anymore. Too fucking bulky for my taste.

They are great for light gun games.

You can buy light guns that work with modern tvs, but they are expensive and a pain to set up, and I have no clue if they are as accurate (have not tried one).

CRT's though could let you play elemental gearbolt and combo through the whole games, even from one stage to another. The level of accuracy and skill on that game that was possible is insane (Way better then arcade games even).

IF you can get as good accuracy with the new guns for hd tvs....then yeah, it's only like 60-100$ a gun, and so the only real advantage CRTVs had is mostly gone at that point (although $200 for 2 lightguns is kinda steep, you can probably buy a very nice large CRTV for that price now).

My last CRTV was a bit over 500 and huge, but it was a freaking pain to move and after doing so twice, we finally left it behind. I wish I hadn't though, I really really should have brought it with us, but oh well.

The way it rendered the picture, it created a natural AA that made the pixels look less squareish.
I remember how some early 3D cards had TV Out only because running games like Quake on a TV made it look better than running it on a monitor, they were too weak to give the game good enough AA.

I don't even care about the improvements in image quality, I'm just glad CRT's are mostly dead so I don't have to move them anymore. Those things were so horribly awkward to manipulate, what with how bulky and front-heavy they were.

for older games i'll agree, on how long they can potentially last i'll agree again. but modern gaming a modern tv is a must for me. but I remember when I first got a modern tv and I hooked up my ps2 to it, it looked horrible.

*looks over shoulder at video game setup including three small CRTs, all of which can be played at the same time, since they are all hooked to different consoles*

... yeah, I'm, uh, kind of a sucker for my old school TVs when it comes to retro gaming. Which is most of my gaming.
