Might it be that they are trying to make the female named hurricane sounds stronger than it is to support their feminist agenda?

They're both over sensationalizing Irma and under sensationalizing it at the same time. They're so worked up about Irma possibly hitting the US that they kinda' forgot that it already did hit the US. Puerto Rico deserves more attention than it's getting.

But, the Puerto Rican bankruptcy was a dozen panic-cycles ago.

I've seen quite a bit of coverage from the islands that news teams were able to get to so...no?

Rush Limbaugh actually made this accusation (specifically that the mainstream media is overblowing the hurricane's potential dangers).

Not even making that up. The hard right now thinks that weather reports are fake news.

Yep, the especially considering fact that the storm was bigger than the island sort of warrants a bit more attention

Then again, the media has been such a shit show over and over again

It is the worst storm in history, coming right after Houston. The claim doesn't make much sense either as global warming is MSNBC's cash cow as well. If anything Fox News and other outlets might be avoiding it because Trump thinks it's a conspiracy theory.

The measured strengths of its winds were definitely not a flop; did you see what it did to Barbuda and St. Martin? The U.S. mainland is fucking lucky that 1) it weakened from a category 5 and 2) its path moved westward in the last 24 hours. The Keys are still getting rocked and we'll see how badly central FL gets it.

Also odd to see a storm considered a "flop" if it doesn't result in dilapidation >__> that's a good thing.

Does the Caribbean get dominated by hurricanes every year? There's one coming behind Irma that's supposed to be bad too. I don't think I'd want to live there.

From a media hype standpoint, it flopped. But yeah. I'd only classify 2 as being lucky. The weakening of the storm was expected. Even at Cat 3, a direct hit on Miami probably would have cleaned out the entire city.

This is the core truth that gets lost in Limbaugh firehosing.

Media coverage only really needs to be:
"There's a hurricane coming - head for the hills."
"Hurricane is still coming - why haven't you left yet?"
"Hurricane's here - you're fucked now!"
"Hurricane's gone."

Instead, there seems to be some compulsive need to send a van down and have a guy stand on the street in the middle of the hurricane, then point cameras at all the dumbasses who didn't flee.
