I started my first job in July this year and oh boy, I just don't have any time to play video games at all. The timings are 9 - 6 pm and I reach by 6.30ish. After that I just don't have the energy to do anything, if I stay awake a little late then I always regret it in the morning and pretty much the entire day because if sleep isn't fulfilled I feel tired/low on energy for the entire day. This Sunday I played Skyrim and after like 2 hours into it I went to sleep thinking 'Man, I'm feeling tired and I don't get to do this anymore, should go to sleep'.

Its 8pm right now. I think I'll only be able to play for like 2-3 hours before I have to go to sleep.

Yup. That and a feeling of boredom. Some games I play for hours, others for minutes, and I'm already bored.

You just need to be more careful about the sort of games that you pick out to play.
You can't really play DotA or LoL or the other medium scale multiplayer games because you can only get a couple games out of it.

It's now about getting stuff that has shorter gametime with a high amount of action in them to get the "videogamy" feel to it.

Oh, and JRPGs are out unless you set aside a weekend and just go f***ing ham on it and poopsock it.

8:30 - 5 M-F here and yeah I game less than I did as a kid. I also find games like Dark Souls or playing FPS on hardest difficulties I just don't do anymore because I don't want the stress.

I'm horrible at most games, Skyrim was out in 2011 and its now that I find it playable (before that it was just too overwhelming to even understand/play).

Games like Dark Souls would be just too hard for me, I was playing Uncharted 2 on normal difficulty and died 6-7 times at some point, so I changed the settings to easy plus the game was pretty boring imo. Though I did play Dark Souls at a friend's place a few years back and I really liked it.

I mostly do hand-held gaming. PSP and Nintendo DS have sleep modes, so I can play during breaks or lunch or for a bit at home, put it in sleep mode and start right where I left off.

Other wise, I only get much play time in on days off.

You work Mon - Fri, right? Basically, you have weekends, holidays, and vacation time you don't use on actually taking trips (nothing wrong with a few sporadic days of "stay-cation"). I have just a 40 hour work week, so I can find time some nights during the work week, too, sounds like you have slightly longer hours.

Really sucks because JRPGs are my favorite genre, and they take so long to play through, including long stretches in one sitting to get through a dungeon or something. I have absolutely zero tolerance for level grinding now, and avoid games that require it to defeat bosses or move on.

I've definitely noticed games that have a lot of filler content to pad the length more since I don't have as much for gaming these days. I have less patience for those kind of games.

I feel like I have to be a little more picky when deciding which games to play as well. I just finished Watch Dogs 2 last weekend and that probably took me two and a half months since I only really play a few hours a week. A game like The Witcher 3 is apparently amazing but everyone I know always says it's the kind of game you can spend 100+ hours playing and still not see everything. That used to be a good thing but now I just don't have time for that, I'd be playing it for the next two years lol.

Its Mon - Sat, so only Sundays

Well, good for me as I'm not into JRPGs, the only one I've finished is FF7.

Most of what's been said is right on the money. I'll also add that handheld systems become more attractive as you get older or have more responsibilities. Even if you don't play them on the go, you don't have to be tethered to a big screen, so you can play them anywhere in the house, or in bed.

I don't have time for any of these overly abundant open world/100+ hour RPGs anymore. Persona 5 alone took me something like 2 months to finish and it was the only game I was playing during that time period.

I've always preferred shorter games though, so it doesn't bother me that much.

I bought it back in April, and I'm just now getting to December in the game.

That's how it was for me too TC. When I first got my job it was coding about 7 hours every day and I would get home and just be too exhausted to play.
You just need to get into a groove and get familiar with your new life.

Eventually you'll be able to do the things you did before and (depending on how your schooling was) you may actually end up with more time than you had when you were in school.

You need to start looking for a new job. Your boss already thinks of you as redundant, thus you are at a significant risk of being fired at any time.

this is I think partly why 'sandbox' games are popular (maybe not exactly 'sandbox'). games that don't constantly demand your attention, and where there is some choice between how demanding a task you're willing to engage in at any moment. you can even just stand around doing nothing for a while if you want, or go safely calmly pick flowers and still do something of small value. examples include Minecraft, Skyrim, WoW, and Factorio.

The thing is, the company where I work is owned by my friend's dad and randomly one day her wife came to meet my mom and told me that my friend's dad wants to meet me. So I went to his office and asked me if I'm interested in an internship and eventually join as a regular employee. I said yeah and here I am. The first month the marketing head was my boss, and now I'm with the human resource department. The first 3 months are merely training period. Even though I haven't missed a day even I don't even mark my attendance yet. Its not all strict and I'm allowed to take it a little easy, I definitely don't abuse this though, at least I think so.

I have a job and a girlfriend and I've also noticed that I barely have any time for my video games which kinda sucks : /

I have also noticed that I am not as good at certain games as I used to as well.

Games such as Halo and Gears of War(any shooter really).
I used to play the crap out of them when I was a teenager.
And now whenever I try to play multiplayer I just get slaughtered repeatedly.

My Smash Bros skills seems to be mostly fine though. And by mostly, I mean only Smash 4 because apparently I'm extremely rusty at Melee and Brawl.

Most of the time I only get to play a little bit of something really casual. Like Hearthstone on a daily basis. Only when a game that I'm really passionate about where my addiction or love of it has me hooked more than sleep do I get into something deeper these days.

I don't have a family so I can still find time. Can't imagine finding time for people in a relationship where they want your free time for themselves. And it has to be damn near impossible for people with children lol. Hopefully I never EVER have to experience that latter though.

Sometimes I get sad as I think I have a pretty decent gaming setup but it often feels wasted.. all my PC stuff just to play hearthstone.. lol
