It is a bad list though a top 100 should have:
A pokemon game (doono what one is best, but a pokemon game should be on it, my personal pick by x/y for all the extra options/story and balance (I think X/y introduced fairy)
A kirby game
the original super mario, those sold an ef ton
tetris (I know the list has it but still pointing out is is required to have a good top 100)
A sonic game or 2
A donkey kong county game (maybe 3rd one?)
A xenosaga game (likely 1 due to having the least objectionable problems)
A FF game that isn't 12,13,15 (ok games but they do not stack up to the best 100, nor are they high rating for best FF games) My personal pick be 9 due to the customization you get for combat and an excellent chr development for 8? Chrs along with significant development for 4 or so significant minor chrs. (I love to hear from die hard fans of 12,13 or 15 should top 9 because of those areas.
Eternal sonata be on my top 100 but idk if that applies to the general public.
super mario rpg legend of the seven stars (Squaresoft + nintendo+ Yoko Shimomura + some Nobuo Uematsu = epic , nuff said)
A zelda game or 2, i doono about making one of them first though.

That and I'd say Baldurs Gate (2)

Both are staples of the RPG genre and helped define it to this day. They are still some of the best of their kind and seems weird to not include em.

I might not put Dark Souls in my own top 5, but it is still a damn good game. It has a lot of gameplay depth, the level designs look interesting and flow together well, the movement and combat is a bit slow but everything feels like it has weight, and the overall game is paced well (it neither drags nor feels rushed).

I'm not saying Sonic is bad (although I've never cared for it myself), but like Sonic and Final Fantasy VII are games that get extra high on "casual" lists due to their legacy more than anything else. Saying overrated may have been the wrong word to use, but the fact they're not on this very clearly casual list is odd, to say the least.

Final Fantasy VII and at least one early Sonic game deserve to be *somewhere* on any top 100 list though on what they did for their genres alone.
