Do you think the Death Penalty should be abolished?

53 y/o Neo-Nazi Mark Asay was put to death 3 days ago for murdering 2 men, one a black man and another a gay man in 1987.

He sobbed uncontrollably in his last interview as he said he was "ready to die" but would have wanted to live after fighting his execution for 30 years, marking the first time that Florida has executed a white man for the death of a black man.

He killed Robert Lee Booker and Hispanic Cross Dresser, Robert McDowell.

He was given a last meal of fried pork chops, fried ham, French Friees, Vanilla Swirl Ice Cream and Coke.

At 6pm, he was given 3 injections beginning with an anesthetic etomidate which has never been used.

He showed no pain during the execution as prior to his execution, he had a 2 hour meeting with his sister, sister in law and brother in law and a second with a spiritual advisor.

Mark was also allowed a final shower an hour before the execution as he became the 39th person to be executed in the state of Florida since it was reinstated in 1976.

Anti-Death protesters were outside hoping for a last minute reprieve but there was no call..One man, Herman Lindsey, a death row inmate was out there and was exonerated in 2009 spoke of the reason to repeal the death penalty

In his last interview, he teared up about the killings and of his newfound religion in Christianity and why he felt he should either go free or be executed. When asked if he had anything ot say, he said "Well, really, just that i'm really sorry and things just got out of control."

He said the murder of McDowell was because he was having a meltdown but said he murdered him because he cheated him out of $10. He claimed to have been drunk when he shot him 6 times as he choked up on the murder that night..

He denied being a white supremacist despite him having a tattoo that read "supreme white power". He said "They are not a representative at all of who i am but they are tattoos and they're not easily removed. I have covered them up. I had a swastika on my elbow, i covered that up. I've had african american friends all my life but i've had to live in very hostile environments and i've had to manage the best i could. While it's a poor choice, it's a choice i made and i can't undo it"

The defense said that his death penalty was racially motivated even though he only admitted to killing the hispanic man but not robert lee booker even though evidence had him at the scene with the weapon and car. He said the government was acting in "good faith" at the time of the prosecution as he wanted to get his conviction changed to 2nd degree and releaesd on time served.

If it wasn't an option, he said he'd rather die as he doesn't want to die in a prison and was at peace with the Lord. His faith in christianity has given him comfort in death

Do you think the Death Penalty should be repealed?

Yes, except for leaders of terrorist groups, criminal organizations, etc. The death penalty is a barbaric practice with no place in civilized society *except* when applied to people who pose a continued risk even when imprisoned (El Chapo, for instance, who was repeatedly imprisoned only to escape)

Terrible choice in last meals, although I guess knowing you're going to die ruins the appetite anyway.

I think the death penalty should be used for any crime that intentionally ruins the life of an innocent. We don't need to waste tax money on somebody that wants to ruin the place.

I think it should be kept but the system overhauled-no waiting for months and years in the death row conditions-that's not meant for long term inmates and shouldn't be used that way.
Give them an option to appeal and they go back into max security while they wait or give up appeals and get it done inside a month.

Isn't this sort of like Caitlyn Jenner but instead it's converting to religion instead of changing genders, killing twice as many people, and not being able to get away with it?

Well, when the US government is going to kill you, maybe they'll give you ham and ice cream first, too.

Overlooking that your criteria is vague at best and highly subjective at that, there have been a considerable number of people on death row who were later proven to have not committed their crimes. If anything, it *should* be used more sparingly, not more often. Especially because, in terms of the ruined life camp, rape would rank pretty high up there and rape cases pretty frequently involve the wrong person going to jail whether it's a woman lying about her testimony (to hide a consensual but illicit relationship or to get back at an ex), an over-reliance on inaccurate witness accounts, or detectives figuring out creative ways to get convictions (coercing witnesses, planting evidence, etc).

America is practically the only first world country that still has capital punishment. It's time to join the rest of the civilized world and get rid of it.

I'm against it except in matters of state with criminals who can't be safely contained. If my provisions were placed, it'd be effectively outlawed since it would might be used once in 30 or 40 years. Likewise, it would overcome some of the strongest objections to the penalty, such as the possibility of killing an innocent.

Basically, I'm against it as a form of punishment (because it's barbaric and can kill innocent men), but I'm more amenable when it comes to national security and for people who pose a continued threat to society despite being incarcerated. For instance, if Bernie Sanders mobilized Antifa and other terrorist groups to overthrow the US government, it likely wouldn't be safe to merely imprison Bernie Sanders because his supporters would rally and try to break him out. El Chapo, the leader of a murderous cartel who repeatedly escaped prison, is another great example. If you can't contain the leader of a violent organization responsible for countless murders, you need to execute them.

One of the few times I'm okay with peer pressure.
