By your logic, any book or compendium of any sort of wisdom should be discarded simply because the morals already existed before they were written down. You can benefit from reading the wisdom of others, and learning from their mistakes. Even if you do not believe in God, Hope, Faith, and Love are in your life in some way/shape/form. Faith is tricky to defend because you can have faith in everything which can lead to "bad" things. The bible states that love is the strongest of the three and it evidently is (have you ever seen anybody complain about being in love) The bible is one of the strongest pieces of literature in the world (well, it's a collection of stories by what ever) and has had an immense effect on history.
