The way history and geography are done in school certainly makes them useless.

Not once have I ever needed to know about the formation of oxbow lakes or a bunch of other shit, and there are no skills or thought processes that are transferable to other subjects or things I do in daily life, or at least none you can't get from more useful or mandatory subjects.
