I'm looking to get a new credit card, but I want to know what cards have the best rewards/benefits. I see you posting about new cards and what their rewards are often, so you seemed like the best person to ask.

I don't care about travel and I'm willing to pay an annual fee. I've had offers for the Citi Double Cash card, is that any good?

Suggestions from other CEmen are also appreciated.

The best rewards cards for you are going to be dependent on how you use the them. Cards like the Citi DC offer a flat 2% cash back on all purchases. Other cards offer a larger cash back percentage, but only if you spend on certain categories (e.g., gas and groceries).

I spend a lot on dining and travel, so a travel card was ideal for me.

well, you don't have to, but you just make yourself look foolish when you comment on something without reading it first.

Yeah, I just noticed this. I like the flat 2%, but this is giving me more to think about.

Thanks for the input.

It's certainly one of the better fee-less cards. I wouldn't pay an annual fee unless you make/spend enough as to where the rewards are going to outweigh the fee.

As someone who pays his balances in full each month and doesn't want to waste his time playing games for meager credit card rewards, I love my DC card. No games with rewards, no annual fee. Good fraud protection as well. As you mentioned, unless you travel a lot or shop at one particular retailer a lot, there's not much better.

citi doublecash, capitalone quicksilver are the best if you don't have large account balances

BoA cash rewards is actually the best if you do, because if you qualify for their highest tier, you get much bigger overall cash back (~5.25% on gas, 3.5% on groceries, 1.75% everything else)

The downside with them is that I've personally found that BoA has terrible customer service (having worked in CS, I am very tolerant/realistic as to what good CS is and is not). Citi and Chase have both been much better to me. Thats just anecdotal though.

lol why is everyone mad at me?

just a side note i just checked in online for my American Airlines flight im taking tomorrow to LA. staying at the Hyatt hotel. all of this is funded by my credit card points lol. but apparently i dont know shit about credit cards.

anyway

doublecash is great. no AF, 2% back. what more could you ask for?

a lot of churners like that reddit you got linked to (seriously take the time to read the sidebar before you start asking questions cuz they are getting toxic and will rip you to shreds if you ask "hey what's a good card?") will advocate Chase cards. the Freedom card gets 5% back on rotating categories up to 1500 dollars per quarter. lots of other cards do this (citi dividend, discover IT) but chase's points are really flexible. sure you may not like travel now, but maybe later you can, and if you get a Chase Sapphire card, you can transfer them and use them for travel at a higher redemption rate (Reserve gets 1.5x redemption). but in the meantime, you can get cash back for your UR and 1 cent per point. so 10,000 points is 100 dollars. No AF for the freedom. there's also the freedom unlimited. same card, but no 5% cash back but you get 1.5% on all purchases.

my current set up is this:
Freedom unlimited for everyday purchases at 1.5% cashback/points
Chase Sapphire Reserve for travel and dining at 3% cashback/points
Chase Business Ink Preferred for internet, phone, and paying rent at 3% cashback/points

i transfer everything to the Sapphire Reserve and redeem it all at 50% more value. its working great so far. plus the other benefits of the card (cell phone insurance from the ink, airport lounges for free from the reserve) make it waaaaay worth it. i did the math and this current set up gets me 1000 dollars worth of value every year toward travel!

Annual fees may seem like a lot, but they're more of an investment. sure i pay 550 dollars a year for my cards, but i get 1550 back from using them (thus the net 1000 in value). its a no brainer.

but i understand that sometime you dont have the capital to front the costs first, that's why the citi double cash is good, and the freedom/freedom unlimited.

but the real money comes from sign up bonuses. look on /r/churning or Doctor of Credit (a website) for the best credit card offers. usually you can get 200-500 dollars just from opening a card and spending a certain amount in a certain timeframe (ie 4000 dollars in 3 months). as l ong as you dont spend more than you would normally, it's free money. i've gotten 2000 dollars of points from chase alone just from opening their cards! Amex gave me 200 and i got even more from opening banks

then theres referral bonuses! i got 275 dollars just form people clinking my links this year!

lemme know if you have any other questions, or if tehres a card you want and ill let you know how it is. come cards like the Capital one venture are just not worth it, cuz the Double Cash exists lol.

BoA customer service has been terrible for me. Just the other day, I called them up to verify something on my account and was put on hold for a staggering 40 minutes before I spoke to anyone.

On my Chase Sapphire Preferred, I call the number on the back of the card and a LIVE person answers on the first ring.

that scared me the first time i called. i called, and i heard ambient sounds of a room on the other end and i was freaked out. then the guy started talking and i was like WHAT A HUMAN!??!

but this morning i called the number on my reserve and i had to listen to 3 prerecorded things and like 10 seconds of hold music before someone answered. so i guess even when they are busy the wait time is short lol.
