as someone who often gets weirdly attached to minor characters, I don't see the problem with niche saves. save who you like.

it only matters if you're trying to push a certain game, like the whole FFX General thing a few years back. then you should do the strategic thing and prioritize the mainstream guys. but it looks like the FFX crew doesn't care to do that this year, which is fine

I chose Rufus over Auron, pretty much why Auron is out. It's nothing to do with Baralai being in. Rufus/Auron are both like top 10 or near it for me, and pretty even but Rufus generally is weaker here (see: this round). I was really just making a joke with the FFX nomination things because that's what people believe or something I guess.

I just really got annoyed with it because no one pointed fingers at Doomtrain when Selphie got hardbooted.

Like if you're asking why nobody was upset when Selphie got hard booted, you're probably just not remembering right. I try every year to prevent the important FFVIII characters from getting booted and I know FFD was bothered by Selphie getting booted, too. Neither of us was prioritizing Headmaster Cid over her either, so who were we supposed to get mad at? And who else cares enough about FFVIII to get mad? Most people here celebrate when an FFVIII character gets eliminated.

I'm still not exactly sure why people would get mad at FFD or me over Selphie getting booted because Headmaster Cid outlasted her. The situations are not analogous. We weren't actively helping Headmaster Cid over her.

like yes if I had let Selphie die in favor of a niche character that only I like I would totally understand why other people would be bothered by that but that wasn't what happened

I wasn't very happy about Doomtrain being the last FFVIII character left last year but nobody else seemed to care that much so whatever

Fair, but by that time those were the only two I had left. So of course I was going all in on the one that survived.

And yeah I don't remember the circumstances of Selphie going out, but I know it sucked since she was an OG.

actually now that I think about it I seem to remember Commodore going on an angry drunken rant at me last year when Irvine got eliminated (which he apologized to me for afterward once he sobered up and realized what he'd said so no big deal) and you reveled in it so it does happen to FFVIII too

Yeah, pretty sure you were the one who pushed for him to get in. I mean, I helped him whenever everyone else in the FFVIII crew was safe but that wasn't often.

You already have 4 with yours and gen's double nom. You'd only need like 1 or 2 to guarantee it and then you could go about ruining the contest's credibility for years to come.
