I'm getting nostalgic thinking about getting so bored in the quiet of the late night and watching random anime on adult swim I had no prior knowledge about, and getting sucked in to the art and atmosphere. Kimagure Orange Road started nearly every Japanese High School trope ever but never aired on American TV. It's the original Transfer Student + Supermatural powers + Tsundere + Notice Me Senpai + High School anime. I really, really want to watch that. I watched the first episode and when the supernatural stuff happened, I was turned off fast.... but the animation and music draws me in. That opening though is a damn nightmare of a video. I will never get people that can't handle fantasy stuff happening. I guess they are just too mature to enjoy any fiction that doesn't take place in the real world. No, I can. It's just ... I guess it is like that reason people hated Star Ocean TTEOT. There was a plot twist in the game.... something to a magnitude that most never expected to happen. That was me with this. When that supernatural part happened, I was like "... wait, huh??" ... It was 100% unexpected. I love slice of life anime when things are standard and I expected that going in. If I knew prior, it would have been easier to swallow, but it just.... I saw pictures and never picked up on anything supernatural.... but whenever something supernatural comes into a show, I am turned off. That's the thing now though. Back then, I was taken off guard completely. I know now.
