Or it's this the freedom of speech we are always going on about over here.

It's only a hate group if it's white, otherwise it's "protesters" or "terrorists," depending. Westernized countries are the only ones that allow people to shit on everything.

No. In the country I reside, it's illegal to speak, post on social media or generally criticise or discuss any or all of the following:

1. The government
2. Government policies
3. Government Officials (extremely important)
4. Any religion
5. Political opinions/interpretations
6. Economic or market downturn

No one talks about these things here. You can get a hefty fine or jail time + deportation.

Does everyone learn English there? It seems like anyone from there has perfect English.

Lots of people learn English as a second language. It is not only the 3rd most spoken language in the world, but also the most widespread. Chinese (the first) is limited to China and a few neighboring countries while Spanish is mostly in South America and Spain. English is literally all over the place.

Yeah, that makes sense. My grandparents didn't speak it until they were teenagers, apparently, which seems weird given their borderline-abandonment of their first language before I was born. My dad and his siblings only spoke English as a result and I feel ripped off...

I love the slow creep of freedom of speech becoming a conservative (and therefore evil) value. Are people really that stupid that they think totalitarian thought policing is what is needed to fight racism?

I got into an argument with some dumbass who, by the end of the discussion, said "well, I guess I don't like free speech then."

I was under the impression the TC was asking if any country that doesn't have horrible civil rights violations doesn't have freedom of speech because obviously there are plenty of horrible regimes that don't allow it.

Depends on the group and the country. Even the US bans groups once their rhetoric (or, more commonly, their actions) cross certain lines.

I understand but I was responding to his title that asked whether or not hate groups are allowed to exist in other countries.

Here, groups that are outspoken are illegal. It's illegal to form groups that focus on discussion or criticism of the topics I mentioned. Such groups can be labelled as disruptors or anarchists or hate groups in this country which is punishable under the law. Protests or campaigns don't exist here. Petitions don't exist either.

To be fair, UAE is a good place to live and work for. It's pretty quiet and quite safe. No guns, no random acts of violence. People abide by the laws because everyone is here to STRICTLY WORK. So, having a brush with the law almost surely means deportation without the chance of ever returning.

Unfortunately, that goodness is dependent on one's gender and race....

It's a slippery slope. First you tell people they can't support genocide, the next moment you've turned into a Nazi dictatorship.

Basically don't incite violence or hurt somebody and your allowed to say anything you want without being arrested.

That last part people forget because that doesn't mean you can't be fired from your job.
