Are you "offended" by this movie?

HBO and Amazon are already developing a controversial ALT-HISTORY series called Confederate and Black America for TV but Sony and Studio 8 are heading their sights for a bigger bet after they optioned for making the movie BLACK, about a nation where ONLY African-Americans have SUPERPOWERS!!

The comic book series is from Black Mask Studios and has been optioned by former WB Exec, Jeff Robinov.

The 6 issue run was created by Kwanza Osajyefo and Tim Smith 3 starts with a police shooting in Brooklyn that sees teen Kareem Jenkins survive a hail of bullets and discover he's a lot more powerful than he ever realized.

Kareem connects with others who share similar powers as widespread oppressive global conspiracy to keep the knowledge of their powers from the world and especially the black community before it's finally unveiled...

Kareem says "The day i got shot changed my life" which references the Black Lives Matter movement, the "unjustly incarcerated" and explosive racial tensions.

Osajyefo and Smith are Ex-Marvel and DC digital editors and are working together to produce the picture

The comic series has attracted a lot of attention lately for modern day secession and civil war series "Calexit"

Are you "offended" by this movie? let's see if people actually are

Not really... They soon started outnumbering white people with high birth rates. I'm sure the better workers were also encouraged to have more kids [citation needed].

While many groups have claimed that the X-Men are a metaphor for them, it's never worked for blacks or any other race because half of the theme is that *anybody* could turn out to be a mutant whereas only the children of at least one black parent can be black.

No, it really doesn't make a lick of sense considering that ALL overseas American immigrants underwent hellacious trips which were actually far worse before the slave trade picked up and were subjected to brutal living conditions. The slave trade largely began after all the infrastructure went down and largely took place in a more gentle climate.

And, in terms of survival of the fittest, keep in mind that blacks were historically subjected to less-adverse conditions which is why blacks kept their melanin whereas whites mutated to adapt to environments with less sunlight. Survival of the fittest also shaped nations, where the strongest nations were able to inflict their will on weaker nations... which, of course, is one reason why there was a slave trade in the first place. If the West African nations had strong, cohesive governments, the slave trade would have been thwarted. However, in the absence of a strong, reasonably central government (or smaller powers with different values), you had tribes selling other tribes into bondage for rum and other goods

That's not even remotely close to being true. First, you've wrongly presupposed that the birth rates today are the same as they were over 200 years ago -- which, if you stayed awake in history, you'd know isn't the case. Second, you've forgotten that more whites immigrated than blacks; which is also something anybody with even the barest knowledge of US history should know. Third, you've made some misguided assumptions about the prevalence of slave ownership in the US. At any rate, at its absolute peak -- the highest point which was in 1790 -- the number of blacks in the US was only 20% of the total population. In short, it never even came close to outnumbering whites.

I started to wonder how this would even work, especially in a modern setting, so I assumed that it was set during the civil right movements where a white government tried to hide that all African Americans got some kind of superpower.
After checking around, it seems like it is in a modern setting and only 0.5% of African Americans got some kind of superpower.

Any movie/series/etc where only one race has super powers is incredibly stupid and I would never watch any of them. I don't care if the race is white, asian, mexican, anything, if its limited to one race im not interested. Although if the story takes place in any one of those countries where thats the predominate race it wouldn't bother me if theres never 'x' race involved because they just aren't part of the setting. If the movie took place in Africa I'd be fine with never seeing a white person but then this story would lose its meaning.

I know this movie is just going to be about black empowerment, nothing wrong with that but how many stories can be pumped out where the moral of the story is "you are black and you arent as good as these people but you can overcome them"? Why keep teaching people that they are not as good as others because they happen to be black? You should come out of the womb thinking you are on equal footing with everyone else and if people keep telling you "well you are [equal] but you aren't really because everyone secretly hates you", then why not believe it?

If you choose not to see it, I'm not sure any amount of explaining will sway you. After all, you can't teach those who refuse to learn.... especially because even you surely must see how this is firmly rooted in BLM (an outrage movement largely founded on a handful of fraudulent narratives, including the debunked "hands up, don't shoot" Michael Brown where even Eric Holder finally noted that he had gone for the officer's gun) and attempts to reframe complicated, institutional failings as a simple racist narrative where blacks are being held back by whites because they're special. The whole thing is an outrage anthem and is none too subtle about it.

Probably a reductivist argument of the worst kind, considering the wealth and variety of white literature. Nor is it an actual excuse. Sexually frustrated, geeky white males write about what they know and escapism and, not only does much of it look and read the same, but it's rightly derided as crap -- even the stuff written to appeal to that market. That's not to say that complete crap can't be done well, mind you, and that there aren't examples which transcend the mediocrity. Plus it's worth noting that there ARE black writers who leave their comfort zone, so even your basic premise is flawed.

Ummmmm-

This was done before. Except it was called shaft shafts big score and shaft in Africa.

Not only was John shaft the only one w superpowers but he had the strongest superpower ever made/ the coolness factor.

A power that allows you to defeat anyone cause you are more badass than them even if you have no logical right to win.

Batman exhibited this in small quantities whenever he fights superman. But he's low level and not an 80s (or 70s) movie badass.

Facts are facts though. The power of cool is the highest superpower that can be achieverd.

As a point of fact the world should recategorize race into two things.

1- cool

2- dork

So skin color is no longer a race or factor in anything and a persons merit cases bad ass quantity determines their "race" in society. Dorks get stuffed in lockers like they deserve and cool transcends the physical appearance.
