Heh.
Mrs. DevsBro and I had almost no help with ours. I think my dad secretly didn't use the chck we gave him to pay for our venue but I don't actually know how to confirm this. Was $650. The whole thing was $3k, including honeymoon. In hindsight, we should have courthoused it, doubled the honeymoon fund and put the remaining $2k to student loan. Planning a wedding was one of the most stressful things ever, neither of us got most of what we wanted in the end, and in the end my mom-in-law was the bitchest bitch that ever bitched and ruined the whole of what was left of the thing. --- ... thinking about wedding in terms of ring/honeymoon/event costs makes me sad sometimes
like i'm well to do and so are both my and my wife's families but it was a pretty huge waste of money we could have used on something more productive 6k on ring, 20k on wedding, 8k on honeymoon --- And when the hourglass has run out, eternity asks you about only one thing: whether you have lived in despair or not. ... My god. Should tell everyone what kind of financial problems are in store for your lives when the woman is spending anywhere close to that amount on a damn one day thing.
Rent a cheap hall. There's one in my downtown that's advertised like $1500 with all decor included for whatever the event is. There has to be ones like that everywhere. Find some cheap guy that will play non-offensive classical or jazz or something off some CDs. Or just find a stereo and tune into a similar radio station. Don't go through the catholic church if you're a part of it. That'll save 6 months of classes and a few hundred bucks. Find a cheap minister. Or maybe you know someone who has one of those licenses off the internet. Rent a tux or just use whatever suit you already have. The woman needs to just stick to a standard dress off the rack at like Dress Barn. Ditch the white cliche. Who is anyone really fooling with that old representation anyway? Find a caterer like Juan Pollo, a local mexican restaurant, or cheap local italian. You want food that's cheap and goes a long way. Order your basic wedding cake at the grocery store. All in all it should come in under $3k. And I still feel like that's splurging quite a bit. --- FFVII Remake: A disaster in the making. In hindsight, we should have courthoused it, doubled the honeymoon fund and put the remaining $2k to student loan. that's what I'm trying to convince my fiancée. her mom would kill us if we did that though right now we're gonna do the court official marriage and us just have a small dinner with family, and I'm hoping that once that's done we can just push off the big wedding until no one remembers/cares the problem is that she's latin and catholic, we'll have like 300 guests just from her side. still, her dad told me he has no problem paying for it all and already offered like $30k, but i'd rather they just pay off her student loans or give us a down payment on a house --- ... My god. Should tell everyone what kind of financial problems are in store for your lives when the woman is spending anywhere close to that amount on a damn one day thing. I mean, I get your idea, but I have a hard time understanding the majority of women wanting to go along with this. Trust me, I think weddings are one of the dumbest things ever, but women are just so damn obsessed with them. They are like conditioned from birth to have their lives culminate in this one event. I just don't know how you can properly integrate the reality of weddings being so stupid with the reality that most women strongly disagree with my sentiment on the matter. IDK, my friend got lucky and his wife was happy holding their wedding on her families farm and having some random pizza place cater it. I doubt it cost them more than a couple grand. They do plan to have a very nice honeymoon though, but that will be in a couple years when they are both done with school. --- just tell them all your base doesn't belong to us because we were getting stoned...they'll understand-Ken156 ... I don't remember the exact cost anymore, but I think our wedding was only a couple thousand? It was just at my wife's church so they didn't charge much of anything, and we just paid a few ladies there to bring in food. So it was nothing fancy but perfectly edible. Also had a friend that did the cake really cheap.
Sometimes I wish we'd gone even cheaper, but then I go to a big fancy wedding, and, I dunno, glad I don't have that stress in my life, but it would be sort of neat to have more of the cliche fancy wedding. Too late now, though! Our honeymoon was also dirt cheap, lol. I do wish I'd spent more on that. Went to a touristy area off season so a decent hotel was under $40 a night, but should've stayed in a cabin or something if we were set on going to that region (Smokey Mountains). A cousin of mine who has rich parents was given the choice of 20 or 30 grand for a wedding or to put towards a house (or a cheap wedding and the rest goes towards a house), she opted for the expensive wedding, and her parents paid the down payment on an expensive house for them anyway. :( --- -- - ...
