Why are you considering this?

Don't do it. Your high school diploma is the single biggest thing impacting your access to jobs, and you'll kill your employability and earning potential.

Unless you're dropping out to get your GED immediately and enter college, you'd be making a huge mistake.

You can private message me if you'd feel more comfortable, I'm genuinely curious.

I have experience with this through people close to me. Almost all of them had to return to school to upgrade and complete their high school diplomas before they could find worthwhile employment. The one that didn't had difficulty finding work beyond food service and retail, and even in those industries it can be a deal breaker. Not only does it take more work to go back later in life, it costs you money. Here it's around $650 per class.

You're really limiting yourself and making for more work just to complete your education later.

There are tons of ways to get a HS diploma equivalent, so dropping out isn't really that horrid of an idea if you are open to them. If you look around you may find there are programs to train you in a variety of fields that will also allow you to get your HS equivalency degree.

I went to such a one at 17 (I graduated from HS early), and many of the people there used that program. It was a free 9 month gov program, that trained students in a variety of careers. I got my electronic techs degree for instance, but they had a section for secretaries etc.

Look into that before dropping out for sure.

Also check if there are any private schools (Especially church based) near you that you might be able to transfer to. I did that my freshman year of HS because I was tired of taking the same classes over and over and wasting so much of my day (I was working at the time and thought school was a total waste).

Now, now all private schools will allow you to progress at your own speed, but some will, and you could graduate early (sounds like you only have a year left anyway). I worked as a janitor at mine to pay for going there.....many will offer you something like that if you are serious about wanting to go and graduate.

Another option is to just plain out skip HS, and go to college. Depending on where you live, you can often go to college for very little (or nothing sometimes) up till you get your AA degree. What is more, there is something called an Advanced Highschool Diploma, which you can get by taking something like 12 credits (specific classes) in college.

If you want to look into it, you might be able to ditch HS all together, right now, sign up for college and not only have your Advanced HS diploma by the time you normally would have, but be well on your way to having your AA degree as well.

There are tons of options, and it certainly doesn't have to be a negative. In fact, you might even be able to take out student loans if your going to a college, that would help you pay for your own place, or help you support your mom if your living with her etc.

I'd suggest talking to your relatives/parents etc if they care for you at all (I didn't have that), and figure out what is best for you. HS is a total waste to some people (though I do regret not having the social experiences), so it's certainly not the best solution to stay in school.....but...much like quitting a job before you have another one, you should not quit HS until you have a better plan for your life.

Fortunately I left school at 16 with being a Brit and all. I then went right into work. I can't say I had a problem with school itself. Just some of the people in my classes. I didn't do well at school but eh at least I stuck it out until the end.

My friend dropped out in grade 10 and makes tons of money in online advertising and gets paid trips all the time. He's living like a millionaire.

My grandpa dropped out after grade 8 and ended up in charge of engineering at a hydro-electric plant, and he was so good they bribed him out of retirement and would regularly call to ask him stuff after he retired for good. He had additional training, obviously, but as far as public school went, grade 8...

They're exceptions rather than the rule... Just write for your GED and get into a trade.

Don't do it

Three of my cousins dropped out and said they'd do the same thing after working for a bit. It's been over 5 years and none of them have done anything with their lives. All they do is work their dead end jobs and then waste whatever money they get on pot/booze. The motivation to do anything useful literally left them the moment they dropped out. Don't be like them, bitching about how hard life is, and then not doing anything to better it.

I'm going to assume either it's a relationship problem, or you can't stand being in the same class as your juniors.

My advice to you is assess what's temporary and what's everlasting. Your disgust with the environment you're in will come to an end as soon as you graduate. Your diploma will be there forever.

I don't know about the states, but over here HS is irreplaceable and dropping is followed by none other than regret.

Don't get discouraged from continuing as long as there's still a chance for you to do so.

And this is exactly why you shouldn't aim for your GED. Arguably, it's more work, and if your actively admitting that you're too lazy for basic high school work, you're gonna roll your eyes and shove the GED practice book right in your closet the moment you see that it's more than a dozen pages.

Just muscle through it. You already have a "nothing to lose" approach, so just keep that mentality and do everything you need to do you can barely pass and get your diploma. Graduating high school is so easy. Half of the people in my town can't even read, and they still did it.
